Albion, Charlton and Chelsea among others actively scout youth football in Sussex. Anyone who is any good should get spotted well before the end of U16 football.

Although I do not agree entirely with you, there is an element of truth in as much as most boys playing at a good level in Sussex up until the age of U 16's would of likely been watched a number of times from scouts from different clubs.

Without an approach it offers a degree of opinion that maybe your seen as not having the potential for becoming a professional, but there are some quite outstanding exceptions.

Best to play football to enjoy and get better rather than to get scouted.

You've brought him up to know his own mind and not to do something to keep you happy; through either guilt or fear. You should feel proud and I applaud him.

That school does produce some very good players... I was their coach driver a few years ago when they won the national school champions or whatever it's called. Took them to Watford for their semi and Chelsea for the final.

Empire's lad may well have regrets when he's older but ultimately it's his decision not to play... The wrong decision IMO but it's still his choice to make. If he was my lad I'd be a bit gutted but then I'd rather go and watch/support him than go to Millwall today anyway!

Albion will be there to watch until the end of time. However, the opportunity to play the game will not!

I think it was a reference to the fact that it is where the trials are being held rather than to the children of the school in general.

Pork pie land.
has he got his head screwed on?

You cannot make him do what you want.

He must make his own choice, based upon advice (which no doubt you have given him). My son was "encouraged" to play football, and was good enough to play at county rep level.

He got invited to try rugby, loves it, and never goes near a round ball any more. He is also good at it, and plays CB level rep rugby, so I support his choice, although he will never get rich from playing it.

thats right,i certainly have a level headed aproach, and not a ego parent forcing him to do things he doesnt want(have seen it so many times)
,im sure other opportunities will come,if he is good enough,
i just want him to enjoy his last year of youth footy

Up to him, and good on you for not being a pushy parent. Although, I would encourage him to make the most of his skills and youth and play for as long as possible. You never get it back once you're past your early to mid 30s - I still get frustrated that I'm nowhere near as good at rugby as I used to be - but you can watch the Albion til you drop dead. In fact wouldn't it be great way to go if, aged 80+, you dropped dead celebrating a last minute winner?
