True but that is going into a whole new debate!

Personally, and I think I'm firmly in the majority here, I think road tax shuld be abolished. All raod tax should be on the fuel.

1) Zero administration. This money could be ploughed into public transport.

2) The more you use your car the more you pay

3) The more polluting your car the more you pay.

4) Visiters to our country using our roads pay too.

I really is THAT simple.

Hi and I don't disagree with a word!

A Polish immigrant went to the DVLA to apply for a driver's license.

First, of course, he had to take an eye sight test. The optician showed him a card with the letters:

'C Z W I X N O S T A C Z.'

"Can you read this?" the optician asked.

"Read it?" the Polish guy replied, "I know the guy."

But most of them are living here PERMANENTLY.

Its not a question of growing up, its a question of if they want to live here, they have to pay the same taxes as we do.

:lolol: Very good.

Except - it's "DRIVING licence". We are not Americans!

Getting back to the thread, there has been a huge influx of Eastern European Immigrants here in Brighton in recent months with a large number of Polish people among them. We now have Polish bars and shops springing up around the city. I have been stopping increasing numbers of Polish plated cars primarily because of the crap driving and state of the motors. Almost all of the Polish people I have been in contact with are perfectly normal, pleasant people. In fact the majority of them are polite, calm and quite happy to provide their details, unlike some of the local drivers who think it is their god given right to drive like an arsehole! I stopped a carload of 5 polish lads the other night and they were all painters & decorators, they said they can earn 6 times as much than in Poland and by all accounts from people I have spoken to they are grafters and do a pretty decent job.

As for their cars and vans, there isn't a lot I can do really. I have no real way of checking to see if they are insured or if the car is legal or even if the driver is allowed to drive (i.e not disqualified) since i don't have access to Polish police records. Strictly speaking they are only allowed to drive on their Polish licence for a year after entering the country and should also register their cars here after that period of time. Of course many of them get round this by going back home every few months and effectively resetting the clock on their licence and car (cheeky buggers!). I know the Traffic Police are looking into it since they are getting worried about the numbers of potentially uninsured foreign cars on the roads but we have enough of our own cars and drivers that already fit that category so I can't see the point really. Personally, as long as they aren't dealing drugs, nicking stuff or beating people up i couldn't really give a toss, my traffic involvement stops at sorting out minor RTCs and issuing the odd ticket.

i have nothing against poles or anyone else for that matter
but what annoys me is the fact that they undercut us on wages
its ok for you big earners but when you are on £10 a hour
and they come and do it for 5
i cant support my family on £5 a hour

Hence my company announcing that they are going to cut wages by 15% within the next year, stop sick pay and reduce holiday pay for temporary employees.
Three cheers for the immigrants!

Hmm...and that's to do with the immigrants is it? Nothing to do with your employer being a tight-arse at all?

I read an article a while back stating that a significant number of Brits are buying cheap, run-down second homes in Poland, typically they are self-employed builder types.

Conversely we are getting a number of young Poles moving to our shores to either work or study.

In summary, we get rid of a load of 'I don't need no university me' self-made saloon bar bores. In return we get a load of pleasent self-motivated young Poles.

Fair swop I say.
