You have no idea who's driving what car (particularly as the manufacturers each have two cars) unless you look at the TV screens.

The number 2 car in each team has the camera pod on the air intake behind the driver painted in bright yellow.

Now, if you have to watch TV to know what's going on, why are you there in person?

You have no idea who's winning ... unless you look at the TV screens and if you have to watch TV .....

And you would rather have watched us on the telly at home than be at, say, the Millennium Stadium? You're supposed to be there for the atmosphere- as you say it is very noisy.

There was no overtaking (none that I witnessed) so you saw the same parade of cars going round and round and round and round the track with the only changes in the order happening after pit stops.

Er...David Coulthard stormed through from 21st into the top ten before retiring.

Verdict: F1 is a rubbish spectator sport.

Despite F1 being one of the World's most popular sports, people are a bit Marmite on it.

Strikes me that you were fairly determined not to enjoy it from the start, and didn't really make any effort to find out who was driving what car, what was going on in the pit lanes etc etc. If you're not fussed about getting much out of it, then clearly you obviously won't.

I've never been to a Grand Prix, and wouldn't even count myself as a massive fan. But I spent the day at Silverstone as a guest with Renault a few years back when they were testing (Alonso and Fisichella were both there driving, amongst others), and it was a bloody brilliant day. If you bother speaking to staff and engineers (when they've got time obviously) to find out a bit about whats going on, its a fascinating experience.

The only downer was waiting for 2 hours with my newphew outside Ralph Schumachers trailer at the end of the day, as he wanted an autograph, only for the miserable krout to come out, barge through with a face like thunder and f*** off in his Mercedes with not even a wave. The tosser.

I don't think you understand.

At most other sporting events you get to see all the action from where you're standing/sitting. You know who's scored, who's winning etc etc. If the stadium has a TV screen it's fine to see replays, but you can follow the game without the screen.

At F1, if you don't have a screen you don't know what's happening.

Watching the playoff final on TV instead of being there would have been shit. But at the Millenium Stadium I knew exactly what was happening without having to keep one eye on a TV screen.

They have giant screens at F1.

They also have free radio commentary.

And different coloured cars to make it a bit easier to follow.

Truth is an absolute defence.

Hmmm, not so sure about that.

A few years ago when I bludgeoned an old lady to death for the contents of her purse, I decided that the truth wasn't going to be the best defence, and instead relied on a falsified alibi which had me many miles away from the scene of the crime.

That worked a treat!

The race itself? Well:

There was no overtaking (none that I witnessed) so you saw the same parade of cars going round and round and round and round the track with the only changes in the order happening after pit stops. How incredibly boring is that? It's like that bit in the movie The Truman Show when he realises that the same parade of cars, bicycles and walkers keeps passing his house.

Then it's over and the winners get presented with whatever the winners get presented with on the podium. How can you see this ... for most people the only way is on the TV screens ... now if you have to be near a TV screen to know what's going on .....???

It is VERY NOISY.

Verdict: F1 is a rubbish spectator sport.

Thank you.

It doesn't sound like you made much of an effort to find out what the sport was all about.

I went to Silverstone last year - also Corporate Hospitality - and yes, there are times when you nip into the suite to check the telly, but it's for things like where a driver has dropped down the field and you want to check it was a pit stop (I couldn't see the pit lane from my suite) as opposed to a spin or to catch a replay of something that has happened elsewhere on the track. You hear a massive roar from elsewhere and you dive in to see what has happened.

But to say you didn't know who was driving what car or who was leading, does suggest that you hadn't really set about to understand the sport. It reminds me of my old nan who used to say about cricket "I just don't know how you know who's winning when they all wear white."

So the introduction of the pajamas for one-day was thanks to your old nan??

Went a couple of times in the 80`s when it was at Brands and about a tenner to get in. Well over a ton now I hear. Great days though what with the air displays, other races and the like.

and those Marlborough girls in their mini skirts handing out freebies........................................................... enough to make me start smoking again.
