Why the f***, just because he's higher than me at work does he think it gives him the right to treat me like Im beneath him as a person.

Also he thinks he's funny as people laugh politely at his stupid attempts at comedy + it seems being a boss means you can choose when to say hello to your staff and when to ignore them.
As a result when I pass him on the stairs, it's always a no win situation as if you say hello and he ignores you feel a c* nt and if he says hello when you were built for ignoring that also looks sh*t

when i was in the forces, as a junior then a senior rate we had to salute each and every officer we may pass by throughout our daily routine. on numerous occasions i saluted these officers and they did not return their salutes sometimes, which really PISSED me off, so i used to about-turn and catch up with these officers and say 'excuse me sir, i have carried out my duty of respect to you as a naval officer and saluted you. do you not have the common curtosy (sp?) to return the salute sir? it really used to embarrass most of them, especially the junior ones. equally i have been told to wind my neck in and told to f*** off on one or two occasions.

I used to have a boss who was too pre-occupied, busy or stressed to reply if you passed him in the corridor.

Someone held a door open for him once and he walked thorough without a words of thanks. That person then volleyed down the corridor behind him "even pigs grunt".

It was a career threatening moment, but he got away with it.

It sounds like you focus too much on this one person Dougal, and it's mostly your issues regarding his responses and actions, rather than his. Professional jealousy or unwilling fear/awe of authority.

Get over it and stop looking so closely at the other guy. No need to toady up to anyone, but be normal, and if he is not normal in return just ask him why he acts that way towards you.

The circumstance may not change, but the power is in your head for it to change for you. Same with women really.
