That is on the list of alternatives we discussed. The last time I was in there they were serving Pompey Royal, so I don't know what it's like these days. The Coach House (converted from a tea house/antique shop) did sell Harveys a coupe of years ago.

We may use it as an opportunity to visit other Harveys pubs - rather than always go to the same pub.

My old man has not been well, and it was the first time out for a while. I took my 14-year-old son along as there may not be too many more opportunities to go to the pub with his grand-dad. And it looks like it is the last time for the 'orse.

Just what exactly is the world coming to?

Out of the 11,947 pints of Harveys I have ever drunk, 9,401 of these have been consumed in the Black Horse. The Old Ale has never tasted better than in there, late on a cold Sunday afternoon after a breezy walk on the undercliff dodging the spray.

Despite this sad news, I'm confident that the drinking public in that part of the world insist on Preparation H and will vote with their feet if it's not replaced. The elixir of the Ouse will be flowing in the Blacky before too long because it's commercial suicide for it not to.

It's been a while but doesn't the Plough do Harveys these days?

Thankyou MoH. I was beginning to despair of this board that in my moment of pain few were offering the kind of support required in this dark hour.

We can't just switch to the Plough. It would be like going to Selhurst Park. Also the music is too loud for my old man. Mind you desperate times call for desperate measures.

Which is another thing - music was audible in the Snug bar .......... aaaaaarggh .......
