The Black Horse, High Street, Rottingdean, no longer sells Harveys. It sells Greene King.

I have drunk in that pub, man and boy, with my grand-father, my father, brothers, sisters, brothers girlfriends and wives, sisters boyriends and husbands, even my mother on one occasion, with friends, girlfriends, my wife, and neighbours. Tonight for the first and last time, I went in with my father, brother-in-law, and son. My grand-father will be spinning in his grave.

I am simply unable to take it all in. But I needed to share it with you.

That is bad news - Black Horse was a great pub when I lived there

I love Harveys too, but Abbot takes some beating.

Greene King are slowly taking over all the Beards pubs in Lewes and taking Harveys off and putting there shit on in place of it. They also seem to be losing alot of customers aswell.

:salute: to Greene King

Harveys ROCKS :drink: :drink: :drink:

The Black Horse selling Harveys is part of my heritage. Or I thought it was. If I wanted to drink Abbot Ale I would go to a pub that sells it, or drink it as a guest ale.

I hope they lose a lot of custom, the loss of my business won't make much odds to them unfortunately.

A curse on the house of Greene King.

And they showed the Copper family documentary on BBC4 tonight. The old boys funeral cortege stopped outside the 'orse.

It is the end of an era.

Damn. I missed that, I would like to have seen it. I really must check out what's on BBC4 sometimes.

Greene King won the Champion Beer award at this year's CAMRA fest - much to the annoyance of the hardcore real ale freaks.

Actually, I am going to start a one-man campaign - much like Perseus' failing one-man triumphiant march into anti-Falmer oblivion - to have December 18 (the day NSC sponsors Lewes v Redbridge) declared 'Harvey's Day'.

One week before Christmas should be when all righteous and hearty folk down a pint of Harvey's, whether they want to or not, to celebrate the finest ale of the finest county.

Anyone care to join me in making it a several people campaign? Or a lot of people campaign?

I certainly shan't make a point of dropping in there for a pint when I'm in the area any more then.

A sad day for good beer.

I'm not sure where you can get a good pint of Abbot, but it's shite in the pub near our office.

Harveys forever. :drink: :drink:

I'd happily join you, but that's the day I'm travelling off on my first ski holiday of the season, so will probably be drinking cheap lager that evening.

I'll try to make up for it at other times, though....

His cousin, Ron, used to run the Queen Victoria in Rottingdean (when it was a Brickwood's Pub).
