I thought we had it on pretty good authority (multiple involved sources) that Poyet thought Murray was lazy and wouldn't step up so advised the club not to match Palace's higher offer?

It is, in hindsight, the obvious screw up of the club's recent history.

At the time I heard the same from someone in a senior position in the club. Also that Poyet found a request for a substantial pay rise from a League One (becoming a Championship) player, a source of irritation, as Poyet's ego came to the fore.

There is a famous story about Murray's (lack of) movement in training and old Gustavo fetching a chair and putting it in the middle of the pitch for him to have a sit on. He clearly didn't think Muzza was the right fit to take the club forward, he was clearly very wrong.

Did he ever explain the hand on forhead goal celebration?

He has been a credit to BHAFC, even when he wanted out but i think that was is ex that wanted to move up north.

In the video Glenn does say that the hand to head celebration will remain a secret. I've not heard any different since the video was released a while back.

In the recent Palace video tribute marking Glenn's retirement, Zaha commented that Murray always seemed to do very little in training, then came alive in matches.

I changed my mind on Poyet after watching the ego in action at the somewhat infamous Seagulls Over London meeting.

Openly dismissive of the FA Cup, disrespectful to lower league opponents, reckoned the England Managers job to the "easiest in the world" and very "meh" when asked about Murray.

Only going to go one way when he locked horns with Bloom and I don't miss him.

Murray clearly an Albion Legend and Poyet just another manager.

Wrong cup. He was dismissive of the League cup as he thought there should only be one cup competition per season. That’s why he didn’t bother much against Swindon.

He loved the FA cup and was proud to have won it himself. He did think the U21s were capable of playing against Woking and such like in the earlier rounds.

Not at that meeting, I was there I'm afraid.

Then he said exactly the opposite at Fans Forums.

Which goes to show, you take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

This was a very different environment of course, round a table with much fewer fans and no press.

He was also very dismissive of Claudio Ranieri, implying he was irrelevant and himself and a few other players basically ran the show.

Completely full of himself, everyone else was wrong about football except Gus. Never forget it.

Now managing in Chile.

Two Albion legends in the studio tonight, Murray and Andrews.

Muzza's Barnet thriving under the Sky TV lights.

Sometimes you have difficulty with facts. Oh well, never mind.

I know we played against Liverpool and Villa in the FA cup in the 5th and 4th round respectively, but never got further than the first or second round of the League cup.
I liked him, others didn’t. That’s life.

We got to the 3rd round of the League Cup under Poyet in the first Amex season, beat both Gillingham and Premier League Sunderland 1-0 before losing to Liverpool in 2-1. That was the only time we made it past the first round under Gus.

Our FA Cup record was a lot better, 4th round lost at Villa when Gus first took over, 5th round lost at Stoke in the last Withdean season, 5th lost at Liverpool first Amex season and 4th round home lost to Arsenal in his final season. Home wins over PL Newcastle in those last two seasons as well.

You’re right, I forgot the win against Sunderland.

Andrews was decent enough for the short spell he was with us, but there's only 1 Albion legend in the studio tonight !

Absolutely this, Keith Andrews? legend? I don't think so.

The guy only ever played a few games for us on loan anyway, and was never actually a Brighton and Hove Albion player.

No where near legend but pretty solid player .

Just looked on wiki and he played 31 times in that play off season. Cant recall him playing v Derby though ?

Lucky to make the play offs that year really
