British Muslims are leading a new campaign condemning the recent attempted car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.

The campaign, titled "Not in Our Name", will be launched across the UK with adverts in newspapers.

It emphasises "the Muslim community's rejection of any attempts to link any such criminal attacks to the teachings of Islam", organisers said.

Muslims from various professions have backed the campaign, including doctors.

The advert, accredited to "Muslims United", also carries a quotation from Koran reading: "Whoever kills an innocent soul, it is as if he killed the whole of mankind.

"And whoever saves one, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind."

There was a Muslim fellow explaining this on the news this morning - he mentioned that their community was acting in response to the accusation that their silence was a support for the acts of terrorism.

It IS about time they came out en masse and made a stand against what has been done by others in the name of Islam.

As much as anyone can stand up for the Muslim community and against the generalizations they may suffer - they have definitely been slow in getting up and speaking out against terrorism.

This'll piss off a few on here. Nothing like blowing away a few ignorant prejudices.

I notice that the first job mentioned in the advert are accountants. Excellent.

Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know.” (Qu’an 8:60).

Nice religion of peace

This may be the first major campaign from the Muslim community but it's incorrect to say they've "been slow in getting up and speaking out against terrorism", British Muslims have come out and publicly denounced every act of terror so far.

Interesting counter argument cg, but have you peered at the Bible lately, and found it full of 'peace'? I seem to recall a LOT of massacres and beheadings, pagan types of tortures and terrible forms of capitol punishment.

Yes, try new improved 'Bible', amaze your neighbours with ancient rituals and acts of abnormal behaviour, then oppress them and shun them for not sharing your interests.

Hmmm.
I see the Koran makes about as much sense as the Bible then.

Not loudly enough, most would agree - and not on a high-profile international scale either, imo.

I'm not trying to be judgemental about it, as personally I defend those of Muslim faith on the whole. Looking at how others see that religion though, even if those others are making sweeping statements or are comparatively uneducated, or unfamiliar with the people who follow that faith, I think the spokespeople and leaders of that faith have a lot to gain from making their anti-terror stance higher in profile.

a) It may stop their own people from being vilified and estranged from other cultures. It would educate many, and bring in understanding and tolerance.
In this way, no-one will be open to political manipulation AGAINST Islam, and non-Muslims will not accept such perversions of their feelings. (and a leader like Bush wouldn't get away with galvanizing US military might, under the name of a "crusade"!)
b) They may open a door to bring in converts.
c) it would be the work of their religion, and its' ethos (not least to the Muslims, but also exemplary to those outside of it)
d) Speaking out strongly against it may actually stop a terrorist, or show a potential terrorist the error of those ways - that terrorism is neither sanctioned or encouraged by the Muslim faith.
e) It will bring the religion into current affairs and current times. If any interpretation of their faith leads someone to think it's their duty to murder people, then the underlining of the peaceful and spiritual interpretation can re-address that and their errant mindset. Let them know that the '72 virgins' idea is totally bonkers.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Ezekiel 25:17

Leviticus
20:9
If anyone curses his mother or father, he must be put to death

20:10
If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbour—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

20:13
If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.

Deuteronomy 22:20-1
If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house.

Exodus 35:2
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

Deuteronomy 7:1-2
When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations . . . then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.

Yep, peace be with you :p

seems fair enough to me. :jester:

Let's face it. Some people on here just can't get their heads around the fact that some fundamentalist religious nutters are killing people but the majority of british muslims are like the majority of british christians. Law-abiding, peaceful and just want to have a quiet life. Anybody who says different is talking bollocks.

And should be crucified accordingly.

Nestling in green nowhere
Some of the so called "sword" verses of the Qu-ran:

Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people, infidels desire nothing but your ruin, when they meet you, they will say "We too are believers" but when alone they bite their fingers with rage against you. (Surah 3:118,119)

Believers take not Jews or Christians as your friends (Surah 5:51)

Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you, deal with them firmly. (Surah 9:12)

Make war on the leaders of unbelief: make war on them, God will chastise them at your hands and humble them. God willm grant you victory over them (Surah 9:12)

Believers, Forbidden to you are women married to another, unless you own them as slaves (Surah 4:20-24)

Lovely.
