Music at Withdean

The idea of having the pre-match music selected by one of the fans is a BRILLIANT idea, IMO.

We always harp on about our club being different and innovative - we were all delighted when we had a record label as a sponsor - and this would be a fantastic idea to take forward.

Personally I would absolutely LOVE to have MY selection played before kick-off. It's not the music in itself, it's the fact that a FAN has been able to make a contribution.

My boy is 9 and we will have a Family Stand season ticket next year. He loves all the crappy chart stuff but he also loves 'Dad's music from the olden days'. He would be absolutely made up if he heard some of my choices (and maybe ONE of his) over the tannoy, irrespective of the sound quality!

Brilliant, brilliant idea - I really hope it can happen.

This (as the hip happening kids are saying these days)

I don't think anybody disagrees with this - but it's a long jump to then start the comments such as cronyism or other general cattiness that seems to pervade any comments you make in relation to those who do give a significant amount of voluntary effort. After all the club is minted now and so could, if they so wished, move on now.

The fact they havn't indicates that perhaps they are happy with the current position and as there are new people involved (ken brown, tony bloom etc) it seems to be less about cronyism and more about willing to take offers made.

As I said it is nothing personal just the stupidity of the previous chairman and the way the club was run.

There is no point in moving on now when such a great event is so close but I sincerely hope the club steps up to the plate with Falmer and has a good re-think on many current activities on match days and commercial operations.

The club already does.

Disagree and I expect Reading managed to make the transition very well from Elm Park to a decent stadium, everything must and will change.

You are a card bitch hut. So now this is down to stupidity of a previous chairman.

I'm assuming you do recall how John and Paul came to become announcers for home games? I'm sure if there had been any outpouring of unhappiness then things would have changed. To overcome the ban on music in the early years and the restrictions now, Richard Lindfield who is a professional announcer was recruited. So just for once it would be good if we could have a debate that stays on track.

Right, I'm going to rise to that. Dick asked me to be PA announcer at Gillingham because we were both sick and tired of hearing someone else's PA announcer announce our team. I asked Paul to join me. When we came back to Brighton Richard was brought on board. He's a professional broadcaster. Although you think I'm shite, which is your prerogative, I've earned my living on stage for 30 years and done loads of national radio and other media. For what it's worth. Paul led the FFA campaign as well as anyone from bloody Saatchi could have done. We all do it for nowt, and Paul and I buy season tickets. We are all passionate Brighton fans. And you would like us to be replaced by what? Someone who doesn't care about the Albion and erm.....works for local radio (notwithstanding that Richard does already) or does discos or something like that?

The current board are as far as I know totally happy with our role in the match day set up - the problems re Withdean and ticketing etc are something else and obviously not to do with us.

The music debate is one thing: I am so desperate for the atmosphere at Withdean to get better and us to get 3 points that if I have to hear unreconstructed smegma like Jedward for it to happen, bring it on! But what you are saying is garbage. Come down the Welly one night and we'll discuss it over a few pints of APA if you like!

Please do not play Jedward. Please.

Atilla. I LOVE your choice of music. And a friend of mine who came to watch the Albion but supports another team remarked how RUDDY great our pre-match music is compared to the 'Now thats what I call music' fodder his club serves up.

How many does his club get at home? 25,000, including 10,000 kids?

RUDDY hell. When I was kid I was grateful enough to be taken to the match. I couldn't have cared less about the music.

Kids today, eh? Their own tastes in music and not being eternally grateful for being taken to Withdean to see us lose in the rain (again). Don't know they're born.

The seaside.
None of my business, but if - as seems to be the argument of the majority on here - the aim is to play music that children in the stadium enjoy, then why not let the kids themselves pick what's played? I don't know how your matchday mascot operation works - whether it's a lottery from Gully's Gang members or somethig parents have to pay for - but (particularly if it's the latter) why not include the opportunity to have one tune of your choice played over the tannoy as part of the package. OK, the kid might not get to hear it themselves if they're wherever they lock the mascots prior to kick off, but it's still added value to the mascot package and would seem to tick all the boxes for the Attila-bashers on here.

Of course you'd end up having to listen to songs from High School Musical every week, but hey, be careful what you wish for...
