Letter sent to Mr French. Will let you know if I get a reply;

Dear Mr French

It is with great disappointment I read that the campaign for one of your buses to be named in recognition of Mushtaq Ahmed has fallen on deaf ears. I appreciate that you have a rule about reserving this honour for deceased persons, but as we all know, there can be an exception to every rule.

Sports enthusiasts in the Brighton and Hove area, be it fans of Sussex CCC or Brighton and Hove Albion, are important repeat customers of yours, and it seems rather short-sighted to ignore their views. I believe that the naming of the buses is a wonderful idea, and one that I have not seen in other towns and cities in Britain. However, the reason people like the idea is that the names chosen are people who mean something to the local population - Bobby Zamora and Norman Cook being excellent examples.

The contribution Mushtaq has made to Sussex sport over the last four years is second to none, and you have the perfect opportunity to say thank you, on behalf of the people of Brighton and Hove [your customers - lest you forget], in this very special way.

I trust that you will reconsider your decision, and grasp the opportunity you have been given. Against a background of rising fares, and general dissatisfaction with your services, it is not as though you couldn't do with a bit of good PR.

Best regards

Simon Huffer

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am hugely disappointed to see that the petition to have the name of Mushtaq Ahmed on one of your buses has been rejected. I understand you have rules that only dead people can have their names on buses now but shouldn't a person be honoured whilst they are still around to enjoy the moment?

Think of the countrywide publicity you could get with Mushtaq and his bus, that could only be good for your company, surely? Especially when you think the petition to have his name on the bus has been mentioned in many newspapers across the country already.

Mushtaq Ahmed has been nothing short of heroic in his four years at Sussex and has been the leading bowler in the country for all four years and the best Sussex sportsman for all four years, is that not worthy of a name on a bus?

I also understand the bus fare prices are to rise again from next week to fund fuel costs etc... I'm sure it wont take that much out of your soon to be increased budget to put the name Mushtaq Ahmed on one bus, failing that I trust you will be removing all living people's names from your Bus Fleet like Des Lynam, Sally Gunnell, Southern FMs Moody etc...

Kind regards,

What I mean is, if they didn't, our stadium plans would be f***ed. BADLY. Prescott would have had no choice but to say NO.

"Yes, thanks for supporting the stadium, you could have made yourselves incredibly unpopular and lost millions of pounds by going against it."

The service is about as reliable as a jonny made of tracing paper. It's weird how costs have risen before nine in the morning. Oop north you can do five mile bus journeys for a quid and inner city journeys are 60p. What pisses me off most (apart from them not giving bowling bowling Mushy a bus) is how their arrogant advertising bangs on about how much better getting the bus is than getting a car, but the buses are so shite there are days when no amount of money saved would stop you using the car instead.

Unfortunately and sadly, I guessed to a fairly close degree that that was going to be your response, Dave. You always seem to know someone who knows someone. Good for you. Whereas in this case, I have had several dealings with the person in question.

He has a business to run, and does it pretty well. I don't agree with the constant price hikes, but if it means him behaving like a scheister (I didn't say hew wasn't - I said Go Ahead were the real issue here) in order to get a good bus service to run across the city, then do be it.

Does one suppose that makes me an überbusfan? :lolol:

Hang on a minute, you said just now they were going to make a fortune out of the stadium runs. Now you're making out that they are only involved in the project because to not do so would have been bad PR? Has it occurred to you that both scenarios are correct and are good for business? What is your problem with that?

I, on the other hand, find the buses across the city pretty good, prompt, reliable and convenient. The only downside is the cost. And I ignore the ads, but if people did adhere to them, traffic in the city would be far better.

That's not arrogance, it's the bleeding obvious.

buses in brighton are quite good. I wait maximum 10 mins for one in the morning and it takes me 30 mins to get to work. It wouldn't take me much less time to drive (if i could drive) and i'm saving the WORLD and stuff

obviously cost is ridiculous, could do with several companies operating in the city, like in manchester

Well, I suppose I do have a slight problem with the insincerity of it all cockle. But what I was really trying to say was that your suggestion we owe them politeness for supporting the stadium is a bit silly, seeing as it was a PR and financial no-brainer for them (you hit the nail on the head there.)

The bit about politeness was a excessive sense of concern that someone not too bright might put 'do what we want or else, you f***ing wanker...', without realising they weren't writing to Norman Baker. But on balance you're right, I shouldn't have put it, really. :(

I've nicked this data from my work: it's traded northwest European diesel cargo prices - start from the bottom. Now then, why are bus fares going up YET again?

It comes with working in the accountancy profession in Brighton for so many years, and being a member of The Federation of Sussex Industries, Sussex Enterprise etc etc...Sussex businessmen tend to know everyone and you would be surprised just how incestuous the finance departments of sussex firms really are...:lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

It does strike me as odd that although we do get extremely well on face to face, we also disagree on almost every thing that each of us posts on here.

I suppose that is what makes the world such a wonderful place

Yes because they stand to make shed loads of money bussing fans to the stadium.

In Rome, you pay 1 Euro ( 68p) for 75 minutes on a bus to go anywhere in the City. In Brighton and Hove, you pay £1.80 to get on a bus....its shit and its all French's money grabbing fault.

I couldnt give a toss if he supports Falmer, he is a shyster

That's because you're stuck in a traffic jam for all of that time:clap2:
