Murray to Leeds or Blackpool 500k

Ridiculous!

Had Murray been fit all season we wouldn't have needed an endless re-jigging of the team to cover for him. Fortunately, we lucked in with Owusu and Gary Hart doing such a great job for us just when it was needed which wouldn't have been necessary if Murray had played more.

People have short memories and clearly forget just how little Murray WANTED to be here-remembering that this is now his second transfer request in less than 18 months.

Yes, he probably is our best player at the moment but that means bog all if he's been wanting a transfer for over a year. "Sorry Brighton fans, my girlfriend misses her Northern sausages so I have to do what she says". What a pussy.

Why is he a pussy because his wife doesn't like it down here and wants to go back up North? He has a life outside of football and if his wife hates it down here it can't be nice living with someone who is miserable for a lot of the time.
Actually and this may be a a bit shocking, he may actually love his wife and care for her, and because of this is upset that she is homesick so wants to the best for her and move back to The North.
Good luck to him and his wife back up in The North, it's a shame he hasn't settled as he is one of the players I would have liked to see play at Falmer.

good post. It worries me that we seem to have so many fans that think football is the be all and end all. I sometimes think I'm living in the North East!!!!

Drew I think you should try and be a bit more pompous - this is a football site and I think most posters have a life outside of NSC

Football is the be all and end all ;), but if you have an unhappy family life as a pro footballer then you may find it harder to perform on the pitch.

One, will we spend the half million and two...we'll see :)

I see Swindon want 2.5 million for Cox, so 500k for Murray really isn't that much, is Cox 5 times better?

Is Cox 5 times better than Murray? NO! Will anyone put forward 2.5 million for Cox? NO WAY!

I can't see anyone paying more than 750-1 million for Cox, ant therfore I would be surprised if he wasn't a Swindon player next season.

Ive got to admit, I never really took to Murray. His heart and soul was never in it and it showed.

He never filled me with excitement when he picked the ball up...and in this division players like Lambert of brizzle, Mclean or perterborough, Beckford of Leeds and cox of swindon where strides ahead in my opinion.

If we can get 500k then great.....sure we will miss him, as you would with any good League one player that we may lose...but he is replaceable.

If we could get in someone from the championship who isnt getting a game or is in and out but it also proven at this level then great and im sure we'd have change left over.

I dont think he'd move down south but my vote goes to ex scunny striker Billy Sharp who's out of favour at Sheff united...he's been linked with leeds and huddersfield...but it seems at the moment...its us, leeds and huddersfield that are linked with everyone at the moment.

Great call.... he'd fit the bill. Also wouldn't mind seeing Billy Clarke join (Ipswich fella who's had prolific loan spells at Darlo and Brentford last season (certainly would do the biz at this level and MAYBE above).

Fitness MAY be an issue but i think £650k would be about right with a 15% sell-on clause....or £500k with a 30% sell-on as a bargaining alternative.

He wants away so a sale or loan are definately the order of the day. Would rather we sold so it's done and dusted (and with no risk of injuries screwing us over later on) plus releasing funds (regardless of what TB's proffering), but need to get him off the squad list for morale reasons and for Muzza's benefit too!

Fulham are not overly attached to Bobby Z....what price would you get on that?!!! ;)

Here is evidence ofwhy Mclean would fit in at Brighton

Do people forget what we had before Murray? Top class strikes are not readily available

Of course he has a life outside of football-unfortunately, he earns his living from it and it doesn't always mean that you get to stay within a stone's throw of your family to ply your trade as a professional footballer.

We're talking about a man who has a very limited career-in terms of longevity. His job is not the normal 8-5:30 factory job or 9-5 office job that, hopefully, goes on for 40 odd years. These people (footballers) get paid very well for not a lot of effort but they're not willing to put themselves out for a few years to ensure their future financial security?

Homesick? It's still in frigging England. It's not like they're being asked to live 14,000 miles away from their roots. He'd probably have been here for another couple of years and then moved back up North-what's the big deal? Sorry if it upsets a few of you but being homesick less than 4 hours drive away is not only a pathetic excuse for wanting a transfer-it's pathetic, period!

I'd have liked to have seen him at Falmer too.

Do you not think that when you earn your living as a professional footballer that football isn't the be all and end all? If it isn't (and it bloody well should be) then you've made a very poor career choice.

But it's not him who's homesick. He's left West Cumberland to play in the USA previously. It's the missus who is homesick probably missing her mum for support with a young baby. Yes, she doesn't realise how lucky she is to be with a well paid man but many people are not over bright - that's how it is.

And there aren't many available good strikers around.

What is with this ridiculous attitude that we'll never find anyone as good as murray for 500k or less?

Firstly we got murray for less. As others have pointed out, we got Zamora for less.

This isn't meant as a slight against Murray, I'm not arguing that people who think he is "class" or who think "he's the bast player we've got" are wrong. I'm arguing that the quality he brought to the team cost us 300k. Selling him for 500k still gives us enough money to buy someone of equal value and quality. Or greater quality if we find the right bargain.

Prior to him signing we, the fans had in general never heard of him and were suprised that we paid £300k for an unknown, lets get the £500k and trust our scouting staff to find us an adeqate replacement, if they dont have one lined up already!

Have you ever lived with someone who has moved to be with you, but ends up wanting to go back home?
I have and it wasn't very nice for me and especially not for her, she ended up moving back up North and we split up.
When you have someone in your life with you that you love, like Murray I expects does with his wife then sometimes, just sometimes you think of them before your career.
Some people can move hundreds or thousands of miles away from home and not be bothered about it, some can't, just accept this. Murray is doing the decent and honest thing by his wife and this football club. He put a transfer request in a year ago, but still stayed for another season, give him and his wife a break.
Talking about financial security, he is 26 and has at least 6 years left in him, so if he gets a club nearer the North there is no reason why he can't do well for himself financially.
