Murray and his contract

Seems a massive relief that Bennett never ended up leaving and our Title hopes haven't fallen at all but yet I'm still feeling abit worried about Murrays contract. He for me is our star man. He is a complete luxury to have at this standard and even in the Championship we wont see too many players with as much class. We will never replace him unless we reach the Premiershite, if Murray isn't signing a new contract then bloody hell we are going to miss-out on some top money and a quality player this summer. I'd be devasted as he symbolises the difference between the Albion and all our opposition, sheer class. I've see Lambert, Simon Cox, Billy Sharpe, Beckford, Holt and Rhodes and I must say none of them come near to Murrays ability which other clubs I'm sure are aware of. Is it me or shouldn't his contract now be a pirority? Its the only thing left which is still slightly worrying me.

I don't see it as a problem. We wouldn't of cashed in now by selling him as with 6 months left on his contract he'd have been available for a knock down fee. We now have the situation where he will either sign a new contract which would be great, but if he does decide to leave Gus will have the whole summer left to find a replacement. No worries mate!

Yep. Agreed. Gus will have a decent budget to start life at the Amex and i'm glad that he isn't panicking over Murray. If Murray continues his good form then i'm sure Gus will offer him a deal, whether Murray takes it or not its up to him. Bennett is clearly our most valuable asset and thats why he was signed up before Christmas.

If Murray goes at season's end it will be a pisser, if he'd gone during the window it would have been a disaster. Look on the bright side

happy that Murray is now staying at least to the end of the season and with Scunthorpe the only team reported interested in him maybe he think he future will be with Brighton, i do think if Brighton get promoted there is a good chance he stay, but if we don't i can see Murray going. which would be a shame but not end of the world, as either way it will cost Brighton to keep him or replace him

He's worth more to us gaining promotion and leaving for free in the summer, than getting a nominal fee for him now and missing promotion.

"if" we go up im confident he will stay, as will probably all our stars.

I am sure that he will see the bright future ahead for Brighton and provided the money side is sorted would be happy to resign. If not I am sure there will be somebody out of contract who we could get of Championship standard. As the NOTW said on Sunday Brighton are not going to the Championship to make up the numbers they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Seeing as there have been endless rumours about him "not settling down south" seemingly throughout his time down here, then maybe both parties have agreed that he will see out his contract and be allowed to cash in on the Bosman that follows.

He's a very good player at this level, but I doubt he'll stand out in The Championship. He would be a good player for us next season, and I'd much rather he stayed than went, but it wouldn't be a disaster.

For someone who is not settled down here, he's been here a long time!

How many of those rumours were 'official' and how many just regurgitated on NSC over and over again?

I actually think he'll thrive in the Championship if he gets there. I think he'll benefit from the better quality around him and be able to bring his obvious skills more into play. His lack of pace is certainly a negative, though.

Hopefully we'll get the opportunity to see if I'm right or wrong!

Not since Poyet came in. He has gone on record as saying he is very happy here.

Don't panic things will be sorted

So, why hasn't he penned a new deal then?

Maybe "not settled" is a NSC exaggeration, but there could still be a desire to move back oop t'north. Ronaldo spent years at ManUre, but it always seemed clear his heart was set on a move back to the sunnier climes of Spain, which is a damn sight more familiar to a Portugese lad, than a day out in Salford.

Maybe he hasn't been offered one yet?

He handed in two transfer requests so it was never really an exaggeration. However since then he's made it clear on a number of occassions he's now happy here. I'd be surprised if he wasn't with us next year still.

Who knows?

Could be nothing to do with dis-satisfaction and everything to do with ...

Has he been offered one yet?

If he has, are they still negotiating?

Is there one agreed in principle, but waiting to see if we get promoted?

And many other reasons ... including your suggestion.

My view, which could be totally wrong, is that, if he were really unhappy in Brighton, he'd have moved by now.

I really hope he stays because he is real quality and, as I said earlier, I think moving up to the Championship could be the making of him.

Don't panic, he could have gone for a smaller amount in the window and left us light up front, however if he wants to go in the summer, then he's going to have to put in some performances between now and the end fo the season to get himself noticed, so everyone's a winner

The key is promotion, I am sure players want to know which league they will be playing in before negotiating contracts.(same for the club) I think it will be smiles all round if we go up and we can offer them improved contracts. As it has been stated on here Bloom is a gambler but the risk always seems to be calculated.

The difference with Ronaldo was that he wanted to move once he thought he'd won every thing going in the country he was playing in, which he did. Right time to move maybe. Murray is not in that situation - I think he has a great future ahead of him, and that can (realistically, I think) be achieved at Brighton.

Also, worth noting that the architect of Ronaldo's move was not Ronaldo himself, but Ferguson. Once Ferguson knew he wanted to go to Spain, he made Ronaldo publically say he was staying at Man Utd, thus bumping his transfer value up. Clever from Fergie.
I'm sure Gus knows what Glenn wants, and I'm also sure that Gus is pretty clued up on how to get the best deal for Brighton, whether it be by agreeing to let his contract run down and help us to promotion, or putting a deal in place with a view to Brighton being in the Championship next season.

In Gus we trust.

It just seems odd to me that we have a key player heading towards the end of his contract, with no talk of a new deal, and equally no talk of either the management or the player being unhappy with each other. Seems odd, I can't quite get my head around that one.

Murray is sensibly waiting to see if we go up or not.....we go up, he stays, and this goes for a few of our players.

promotion is VITAL......and we will in the summer be level pegging with some very big clubs (on points, ground, fan base...etc).
