I think everyone should be forced to stay inside until they go away, even if it takes years.

The government has just released this slogan: Keep clear of murder hornets. But what does that mean? If I put my arm in a hornets’ nest is that keeping clear? It’s a shambles.

Professor Ferguson and Imperial College have predicted 13 millions deaths by murder hornet in Sussex alone.

And every death by murder hornet is blood on Boris Johnson’s hands.

Not to worry I'm staying both alert and 2 metres away from these killers.

I understand that the Government have stated that due to a worldwide shortage of Hornet Protective Equipment they are unable to issue to everyone, and that priority will be given to those who live in mansions with very large gardens.

I’ve got a bumble bee nest close to the house. I have been out and warned them.

Preparations are taking place and they’re on a code red problem is the majority must be related to Boris as they just keep bumping into things and buzzing a load of muddled rubbish.

Why have people stopped calling them Asian hornets?

Too boring or not sensational enough?

It's racist.

Or prejudiced against other murderous hornets. Depending on how you look at it.

Just to confirm these are indeed here. Had one fly into our house over the weekend and they are bloody massive. Make sure you hit it hard enough first time to stun it as they take a few good whacks to kill.

Breath easy, that was unlikely to have been Mr Murder. The yellow-legged hornets look similar. It was probably a large one of those. There have been no sightings in the UK yet. Well, Guernsey, apparently. But not sure if I can believe the Daily Express.

Are there non Asian hornets that are murderous hornets?

Doesn’t that suggest it’s more confusing to call them murderous hornets when they aren’t murderous hornets but are Asian hornets who are now murderous hornets?

I’ll go Racist, it’s way easier.

I remember me and a mate stomping on a hornet for a good five minutes when we were kids, before we accepted defeat and pegged it!

What if the Asian hornet also has the Asian flu?

That's the same chap who did a sort of hierarchy of stings isn't it? Watched it years ago. Went from sticking his hand in a fire ant hill up to getting stung by the bullet ant.

I know we're being silly somewhat, but there are actually two separate types of hornet here:

- The invasive Asian hornet: https://www.bbka.org.uk/pages/faqs/category/asian-hornet-faqs
- The giant hornet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_giant_hornet

They are both bad news for bees, but the giant ones are also bad news for humans. Neither are native to Europe or America.

We already have "normal" hornets in this country that are quite big but tend to be less aggressive than wasps and are fine generally: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_hornet

Over here recently the History Channel has been running a similar series called Kings of Pain.

So we’ve got invasive Asian hornets, Giant Asian hornets and European Hornets but no Murder hornets.

Sanity has returned to NSC. Entomologists the world over will sleep well tonight.

These feckers arrived in the Channel Islands a few weeks back, but I thought they hadn't been given clearance to enter the UK on a point of visa issues.
They probably came over in a dinghy - that’s the most common method of entering the country at the moment, though Michael O’Leary reckons he will have us all flying again soon.
