In fact it was the Leeds job which he's talking about here which he left Brighton to take after just 8 months in charge. He was then sacked from Leeds after 44 days.



And he did this interview with Parkinson just 12 days before he took the Brighton job...

They were both Palace at one stage in their careers, or twice in the case of Allison

Fascinating.

In the end they went for Keith Burkinshaw.

And were relegated.

But they stuck with him and were promoted (in that infamous stitch up last game)
And then went on to win in Europe and domestically

No, they actually went with one of Mullery's recommendations in that interview, Terry Neill. Burkinshaw followed two years later in 76.

I always remembered Terry Neill as Arsenal through and through.

He was pretty much. He played for them from 1960 to 1970, Then Arsenal recruited him as their manager in 1976 from his Tottenham job

Judging by these two photos Mullers seemed to be getting far more "love action" playing for England than Allison was getting with Fiona Richmond in the bath...

Martin Hinshelwood tells a great story, they were all in the bath at Stamford Bridge having knocked Chelsea out of the cup Big Mal comes in with Fiona and Monte Fresco the Fleet Street snapper, Fiona gets in the tub and almost all of the squad get out once Monte’s camera comes out ! ( In fear of wives and girlfriends)

There's an almost bizarre school of thought, that the FA should have ignored Revie in 1974 and gone for Big Mal.

Take out the equation of transfers fees, contracts etc, and just have got him on the training pitch with the best 22 players in the country, there was according to many extremely learned football people, no better English coach in the domestic game.

El Tel said he was years ahead of his time, as did Bobby Moore, but maybe not Mullers.

Actually I don't think it's bizarre at all. He was a top-rated coach. Looking at it from our modern perspective he would have been ideal, but obviously the thinking at the time was that in order to be a successful England manager you should have been a successful club manager first. (We now know of course that the two jobs are radically different).

The really bizarre school of thought in the 1970s was that Clough should have been England manager. (Although Taylor on his own would have been a good choice).
