An enlightening piece on Alan Mullery.

Brighton's quest for promotion was gathering momentum when Harry Bloom called in to see Alan Mullery.
The vice-chairman liked popping into the manager's office at the Goldstone Ground for morning coffee and a natter about plans to take the club to new frontiers.
This time there was a personal message, too. 'Do me a favour son,' said Bloom. 'Get us into the First Division. If I see us play one game in the First Division I will die a happy man.'

Everywhere I go, people stop me to tell me they were at Newcastle,' said Mullery who has lived in East Sussex for nearly two decades.
'They remember it and when they mention it I can still see it, I'll never forget it. In my managerial career that was supreme. It was marvellous.

I was at Newcatle we arrived at Witney Bay (Nice Place) at 6am in the morning after leaving the Burell arms HH at midnight on a 53 seater coach.
Stopped just outside Nottingham on the way back and watched match of the day in a miners pub what a 28 hours.

My abiding memory of that day is to hear The Geordies singing GOSBTS as it meant Sunderland stayed down and then driving home through Gateshead in my hired Escort to be bombarded with stones fortunately no damage to the car. Great Day tops all others for me even the Cup Final.

Article says he has lived in East Sussex for 25 years but I thought I read that he lived in Southwater near Horsham

I am reasonably sure I read that he was a Born Again Christian and attended a church near his home in Southwater.

Whatever he is/was a good man for us along with his assistant Ken Craggs.

Have Born Again Christians got two belly buttons?
