It's a mystery to me. I'm obviously old.

The kiddiewinks on here all seem to use it. What I don't understand is how people who don't actually know each other, end up with each other's MSN IDs (is that the right term?)

For example the Adrie/BAG thread - how did Adrie get BAG's details to MSN her? Or vice versa?

I have this perception that with MSN I'd be happily working away on my laptop and then ping some freak I don't know and/or don't want to know starts messaging me.

(Note: messaging systems are not beyond me. I happily use Google Talk where I specifically add friends. No more no less. MSN seems like a fecking freak show.)

I was just about to click submit then I remembered another thread about some bint on MSN possibly flashing him. What's it all about? I don't understand...

Many peoples MSN's are in their profiles, so that might be something to do with it?
Also, i've seen 'post your msn addys' threads.

Anyway, if you don't like them, block them - simple:)

Unless proven otherwise, I file all MSN users under 'freak'.

The only other people in this category so far are "Big Brother 2006" contestants. Oh and Peter Crouch.

Maybe it's an age thing - the only people I know who don't have MSN don't have the internet....

Although perhaps myself, and everyone I know are freaks

Bozza, a quick question totally off topic and yes I probably should have PM'd it but I didn't. Why can you only use the search option for words over 4 letters?

Because every time a post is submitted the board submits all words equal to or above length X to an index so they can be searched upon.

For words of 4 letters or more this presents an overhead but it is not too much of an issue. If this is set to 3 then the overhead increases dramatically. The board could run to a standstill more often than it already does (although I am currently trying to negotiate for a high specced server)...

I must be a hyper freak then because I have MSN's successor (Windows Live Messenger), Yahoo, Skype and Google Talk. Bizarre maybe but that way I can keep in touch with people all over the world. I have a wife in Georgia (we're still freinds), a girlfriend in the UAE and most of my family are in Canada so having conferencing facilities (web cams to you) is a good and cheap way of staying in touch.

Yesterday I had the odd scenario of talking to somebody in Abu Dhabi and in Texas and in the Philippines whist talking on the phone to a relative who is working in Shanghai.

Kids use it but so do people my age for a lot of different reasons. Right now a Canadian cousin is talking to me from Thailand, don't knock it.

If MSN is used sensibly its fine, at the end of the day you have to click on accept for the person to be able to link to you, so its always your choice who you add to your list.

I use MSN for work. When I am working at home my office colleagues all log in - and it is an easy method of contact. I have been thinking about offering to our customers.

For about two days I was able to monitor how often the kids were logging onto msn - but they must set up to always appear offline ...............

We use it instead of emails round the office and from pc's when abroad. With tight controls on whose MSNs you'll accept, it's brilliant, imo.

Disclaimer - i am almost computer illiterate so cannot be put into the "freak" pigeonhole......I hope
