Potters biggest failing is not being able to set up a team up to cope with aggressive lower league players. After three minutes it was clear to me that we were not winning any 50/50s and that it was going to be a tough night. Once again we tried to play tippy tappy football against a competitive team who chased down everything and forced a goal from one chance. Not having anyone other than Biss, who is a one in twenty player when shooting, who is willing to run at players is a big problem. We aren’t good enough to play through a packed defence. But, for me, because of all the points left on the pitch this season, GPott really has to start next pointing in the right direction.

If not and it's really bad - he's gone.
If it's not any better - he's gone at the end of next season.


There's no way Potter should find himself in that position and yet for me he unequivocally is.

Definitely a time for Potter to prove himself.

Personally I think he has it in his locker to adapt and improve.
He has been asked to improve the style of football and he has passed this first assignment.
If next season is to be a push for top 10 (with a similar budget) then that is a massive ask.

If he achieves it, then the talk of "World class" manager would be justified.
But at the moment he has to prove himself, as your OP suggests.

My last comment of the night - arrogance and not being up for a battle lost us that game. Potter needs to rethink his approach against struggling teams and send us out to fight for the right to play his style. I am SO pissed

Scoring is still a huge problem for us.

Improvements have been made in other relevant areas of our game.

Let's hope that scoring is next, For me, this has to start with an upgrade to Maupay.

Then more shooting practise for our midfielders.

He can be as creative as he wants but all the time his team is required to be an attractive ball playing side but is also completely ineffective against a well organized low blocking team, he's going nowhere.


Cry all you want about 'just needing a striker' but far too many times, in his tenure here, any one of us could have played in goal for the opposition and still not conceded.

Tonight it took less than 10 minutes for all but 3 of us to know EXACTLY how the game was going to pan out.
That just isn't good enough.

Its a great night for you, GB, THPP, TSB, Justice and a few others of ypu emotionelessly rolling your thumbs awaiting a poor result. Ignoring that laughable "support", I agree the team needs to perform better in games like this.

In the summer if we don’t address the wasteful finishing or inability to beat poor sides who sit behind the ball I think there are going to be big problems next season.

Fans back in stadiums would not tolerate the home record or results against the bottom sides. This is not something this team and manager have had to deal with for some time now and any repeat next season with fans back I can see patience wearing thin.

Partly due to inheritance and partly due to financial restrictions, GPott has a very similar squad.

Now when it works, it's brilliant.
Having like for like replacements of nice, pretty, combative, skillful players means an already beaten side has no let up.
Another bonus is the depth of the similar squad is less prone to an injury 'crisis' that pretty much guarantees loses, such as all Newcastle's loses without Wilson and Saint Maximum.


But there are so many games, like tonight, where all the manager is doing is rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic, hence the thread.
He needs a big red button and occasionally, 5-10 times a season, he needs to push it.

I get you now. I can’t disagree I suppose, even in my footballing head, from 80mins or so, we could have maybe tried hitting some long diagonals, more one touch passing and try to get from back to front with a lot more urgency and not worry quite so much about losing the ball.

You get a Premier League quality upfront and we take the 1-1 chance that the keeper saved from Maupay. Completely different game.

Even taking that chance away. A genuine top quality striker makes it 1-1 and doesn’t miss from 2 yards.

Having a strike force pre season of Maupay, Connolly & Zeqiri is like going into a porn shoot, packing 3 inches.

All foreplay not enough penetration.

Name me another team that would accept that stat. Sure we are just about surviving. Winning is important. It makes people feel good, you can survive on drawing every game in a season but do you think people would be happy with that season if it happened?
