The arse end of Hangleton
Another vote for Goring although there's some decent properties in the Shakespear Road area as well.

Depends what you like, I don’t think I could live in the town but understand the attraction. Just have a good look around the surrounding as a lot of big houses converted into flats with not ideal tenants.

As others have said, Goring, High Salvington, West Worthing, Broadwater generally decent.

I moved to what BG calls Lower Salvington, just west of Offington Lane and like it. It’s in a quiet area, walking distance to Broadwater (in the summer!), Becket & West Worthing for pubs and easy to get onto A24 & A27.

My criticism was of the area around Cheviot Rd not near the RAFA Club/John Selden area

You must be very close to me.

The whole Durrington thing is interesting as the definition of Durrington has changed over the years. Some of the bits between Salvington Road and the A27 are rough but then you have Half Moon Lane area which is nice. South of Salvington Road is generally quite good. The houses and bungalows a bit further west between New Road and the A27 are fairly quiet. Then you get the original Durrington estates around Columbia Drive which are okay and then the newer places out beyond Tesco which is West Durrington although some parts used to be closer to West Beirut!

Goring generally is nice but there are some ropey bits near the railway line. High Salvington and Offington are nice but expensive. Heene Road and West is mostly nice but East from there is very hit and miss.

The OP's place he is looking at in Warwick Road is not in a bad area although in summer that area gets busy with people trying to park near the seafront. As a place for enjoying the food and drink of the town it couldn't be better placed and there seems to be a 700 bus to Brighton about every 30 seconds along that bit of road.

@BG - I think you'll find Harty is a Charmondean resident these days having moved out of Tarring.

I love East Worthing. We get all our washing machines parts in the neighbouring streets free of charge. Cocaine and weed is reasonable round here as well.

And apparently, a woman who bakes Flapjacks for sexual favours.

Sorry to be pedantic but the original Durrington estates were centred around Cotswold Rd and the roads off of it up to Warren Rd. This was long before Columbia Drive was thought of and in fact my sister got one of the first council houses allocated in Columbia Drive. This was also long before Datsun ever took offices near there.

Where does Durrington end when heading South?

I was going to suggest it would be at the A259, but Durrington High is immediately South of there.

Durrington railway station is surely not actually in Durrington, even if they do suffix it with an incorrect "-on-Sea".

Worthing generally is fine yes there are a couple of areas to avoid and to BGs point the locals have not referred to the area around Cotswold Road as Durrington for years that has been known as High Salvington for my 50+ years. Everyone regards The Columbia Drive estate as Durrington and no it was not there long before Datsun as I used to play on the building sites and friends moved in as the first residences when it was quite decent, it was Tesco that followed several years after.

Funny enough Tarring has improved over the past couple of years roughly the same time as Harty moved out.

Move to East Worthing, you get washing machine parts and weed from the front garden, but if you go round the back garden, you get coke and flapjacks, no questions asked?

Durrington High is a reasonably new name given to what was originally Worthing Technical High School having moved from Union Place.and designed to be the technical competitor to Worthing High School for Boys for which passing the eleven plus was requisite, and a natural follow on from Durrington Primary in Salvington Rd. I went to the Tech when it first opened in 1953 and had to walk from Durrington Station or go by bike, until they continued the route of the no 6 bus from Ringmer Road.to the Boulevard.

I would suggest that Datsun and the estate off of the bottom end of Durrington Lane were built about much the same time and I am talking about 1959/60 if not slightly earlier when it didnt exist...Just googled it Columbia Drive opend in 1973. You are definitely wrong about the area off Cotswold road being known as High Salvington as it never has been, although some snobs may have tried in order to up the values of their house to outside buyers but that wouldnt have worked with locals. High Salvington was the area North of Warren Road. My sister in law lives in Chiltern Crescent and has done for 40+ years and she says it was always known as Durrington until about 10 years ago when Estate Agents started advertising it as Lower Salvington

It’s all a bit skew whiff old boy.

Durrington Station is actually in Goring, Goring station is yards from being in Ferring and Durrington Cemetery is in Findon Valley.

All in all for the OP it’s a nice town wherever you choose to live, possibly with one exception but you’ll know that when you drive round the roundabout next to the pub and there’s a sheet tied to it that says “Happy 30th Birthday Nan”

And Durrington High School isn't really in Durrington,

I'm confused. She bakes the flapjacks for sexual favours....

So she has a thing for bakery owners who take advantage of the fact by having sex with her in return for free baking of oat based goods which they can sell?

Or did you word it incorrectly and she actually really loves flapjacks so has sex with anyone who'll bring her a tray full?

This needs clarification I'm afraid as it could be pivotal in many people's choice of area when moving to Worthing.

Datsun House (now Columbia House) was opened in 1975. The red former council houses which make the original estate off Columbia Drive were built in the late 60's as I moved there as a two year old in 1970 and I believe that the houses were fairly new when we moved in.
