Moving to Seaford or Rye ... comments?

So we're planning on moving probably early next year as a kind of pre retirement thing. Need to downsize to raise enough cash and from trawling around on line these two places like sort of OK. Prices are pretty good, so we don't end up having to give up too much in the way of houses.

We're going over there in a couple of weeks for a more detailed look but just wondered what those living in the area think. I know they are miles apart but it's just the way the properties seem to come out, we're not tied to any particular area.

So if you've got good or bad views would be great to hear as well as any other potential places to have a look in that part of the world (doesn't need to be on coast)

I have to speak my mind here. Seaford is a curtain twitching, Daily Mail absorbing, seething-with-discontent hell hole. Anyone with any spark about them gets the google out as soon as they can.
It does have a direct train to Falmer though.

Rye is beautiful but a long way from the Amex. Is proximity to football your No.1 consideration, really?

... please let me into the secret - where exactly are these 2 decent gold courses

Seaford Golf Club. Great course but expensive. Seaford Head Golf Course. Best municipal course in the county.

We're thinking of moving to Seaford. There's two of us now in a four-bedroomed house (and we share a room), so currently we've got an entire floor not really being used. Haven't looked at any estate agents, but what are the prices approximately for small-medium 3 bed houses?

My Mum headed of East for her retirement; Rye was the town of choice. However, as she still wanted a little space for visitors she couldn't quite get the property she wanted and settled in Fairlight, she absolutely loves it.

Seaford is a nice place to live if you want the quiet life. It's a town by the sea rather than a resort and has incredible countryside around. Seven Sisters park, Friston Forest, The Downs plus the sea. Great for getting to the Amex, Brighton, Eastbourne or Lewes and you can be at Victoria in 1.5 hours. Property prices are lower than the above mentioned locations and there is a reasonable choice to see.

Rye is lovely to visit but miles from anywhere.

Don't like it then?

Has anyone or anything ever 'seethed' in Seaford? Certainly not my impression whilst living there. It's a very peaceful and contented place. Sounds like you want a class war.

Hell hole lol. After living in Luton on and off for the last 10 years Seaford is paradise in comparison, in fact most towns in Sussex are paradise compared to that place. At least there is fresh air here and most importantly space. If you have ever been to Luton's ground that is the area I have lived in.

One thing it has taught is how much I love sussex again, and how damn lucky we are. Compared to other parts of the country I personally think we are in one of the best places in this country.

Should have added one word of warning. SEAGULLS!! If you don't like Gulls swooping, screaming and pooing then Seaford is not for you. . They say you are never more than 6 feet away from a rat. Not sure about that but it's pretty darn close for Herring Gulls in Seaford.

Seaford is the retiring place to be if you don't fancy being crowded out by octogenarians in Eastbourne.

I take it Seaford could be better than Crawley then.........

A friend of the family sadly passed away last weekend, he and his wife loved it in Seaford. It's not too remote from civilisation

Seaford is one of the places on my list of possibles when we downsize next yer. I really like the place and you get a bit more for your money than you do in eastbourne.

Thanks for all the comments good, bad and indifferent. Not wanting to clog up thread by replying to them all but suffice to say notes being taken!

Cheers!
