Moving the african cup of nations

Sepp Blatter, what an egit

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/7194966.stm

He wants them to play in June and July, which as I understand it is monsoon season in most of Africa. Basically just so it suits the European clubs. Why the hell should they do that? He also wants to move it to odd years. Yes great plan, give the good African players only one summer off every four years, I'm sure they're going to love that.

I dislike Blatter with quite a passion. Can you tell?

I can tell sten yes.
I too dislike Blatter, but on this occasion I think he is right. Most other international tournements are played in June and July. Clubs shell out millions in transfer fees and wages for players that then can't play for 6 weeks ofthe season, because FIFA rules say they have to be released. Move the tournement and it's problem solved.

The problem being, it is the monsoon season in much of Africa. On my rather rudimenatary (to say the least) understanding of African geography/weather patterns, it would be nigh on impossible to play it in a lot of Africa, and you would be limited in terms of host nations.

Clubs are perfectly aware of the restrictions placed upon African players when they sign them. Harry Redknapp moaning about this has got on my nerves; if he doesn't want players disappearing off in January every other year, don't bloody sign African players then!

If a club signs an African player, they know beforehand that he's not going to be available when the Cup of Nations comes round. It's not like it's some bolt out of the blue that they've had no prior warning of.

They are moving the next tournament - it'll be in the first two weeks of January (when most of Europe has their winter breaks).

They'll only move the tournament when it makes them money to do so.
Why should a whole continent pander to a handful of clubs?

Blatter is a c*nt, no two ways about it.

I read about this recently, and the article reckoned that if the ANC was played in high summer, there were only THREE nations that would be able to host it.

As others have said, from a club's point of view, you know the deal [you may get lucky, like Wenger with Adebayour, but you know that in all likelihood those players are going].

Just intrigued as to why the figure is low. Isn't about a 1/3rd of Africa in the Southern hemisphere? I take it South Africa is one as the world cup will be in June which is obviously not a problem.

Blutter is a self opionated prick. Couldn't give a toss about poor little African Countries, will only ever bow down to his own reflection. Football is a global game not just a for a few elite clubs, without the rest of us the G14 of clubs would have nothing. If they sign African players then they know the risks. I know why don't we all play in High Summer in the Sahara just so dear old jovial rubber faced Harry can have his African players for a couple of weeks.

It's incredibly odd when on the one hand he's trying to impose qouta's on imported players and then f***ing around with competition that'll make it more attractive to sign African players. It should be left well alone, people like Rednapp are idiots. from a selfish point-of-view i love the time of year it is as it means there's blinding sport for 2 months with this and the 6 nations at a miserable time of year to be leaving the house

Blatter is a twat, has always been a twat, and I can't imagine ever not being a twat, Damascene conversions to reason notwithstanding.

He says that the international calendar should be sorted to suit everyone - presumably what he actually means is sorted to suit everyone except Africa. Arsehole.

It's quite simple - if you don't like having international players at your club then don't sign them. Leave African football to organise itself for its own needs.

As for moving it to summer - I can already envisage the complaints. 'Our players have returned from international duty over the summer exhausted by playing in incredibly hot, arduous conditions and will be useless for the first month of the season. What on earth is CAF thinking of, playing in the summer, in Africa?'

Cricket and Rugby teams survive without throwing hissy fits because their best players miss games to play for their country. KP played two games ofr Hamps last year and the 6 nations runs through 8 weeks of matches in rugby
