Precisely. And it is very difficult to ensure that one always comes across in the manner meant, in a word-based internet forum. I have misunderstood NB on several occasions but have learned how to 'filter' him now, I think.

Personally, I'm still stinging from being described as 'hoity toity' by a poster, 20 years ago. :ROFLMAO:

If there's an issue with political threads, relegating them to the bear pit isn't the solution.
The solution is more robust policing of the threads with explicit rules about behaviour in them; personal insults incur a thread ban, repeated insults incur a board ban.
Basically if you wouldn't say it to someones face (someone who is polite and reasonable but also hard as nails) or your mum, don't say it to people whose views differ from your own.

Imho those threads don’t contain sensible debating, folk persuaded by an opposing view, true listening. Instead:

- Tory haters posting 24-7 vitriol, tune in and it’s the same old, then mutual backslapping.

- The opposition to that was pretty much the same, but the two trolls disappeared and many of the others probably got bored of it and the avalanche of belligerent replies to any viewpoint.

The threads are the polar opposite of the mature debate you hear elsewhere eg on R4 etc.

I voted no, but if it means that the main board is purged of all non-Brighton and Hove Albion threads then I will change my vote.

I have no interest in rugby league/Union, counting to a million, and I stopped playing Wordle. I wish that I wasn't forced to open and read these when I visit NSC.

Have got to know the average political views of most BHA fans from all the petty squabbling on here, all very predictable, so need to open the threads, just read the title and 95% of the content and who thinks what will generally be the same ...

Not really. Lately I've been browsing other clubs websites (to see how our loanees - and some of our recent departees - are getting on and being received at their new/temporary clubs). A lot of them do this - a section for xxxxFC football, another section for other club's football, maybe a section for non-football threads; in some cases a separate section for match day threads.

None of them are as interesting and vibrant as NSC. Mostly they don't have anything like the footfall of NSC either, uness you look at the likes of Chelsea or Spurs. Keep NSC as it is - just remove threads which become vitriolic, or spiteful echo chambers like the Brexit thread, to the Bear Pit good and quick.

How does that expression go? ...... If it ain't broke, don't ............. err ... whatever it says!
Erm I’ll stick with my original comment …and leave it at that :)

You are a little bit obsessed and your very obvious snide comments on here and the political threads illustrate the point perfectly.
I get that, at times, other posters have unfairly turned on you, and that you contribute some interesting thoughts on varied issues that enrich threads. It seems as though you've had a falling out with Bold Seagull, who in my experience is courteous, rigorous and to the point.

I have spent many years debating on here and in real life. I think there may be a bit of projection going on here. I have views that do not fit your neat good/bad, red/blue outlook on life which unfortunately generates a bit of a stalkerish reaction in yourself and a few others. Up to you really but anybody trawling through my past posts as you suggest is in for a very dull few days. Anyway, I enjoy your posts on football.

I think there's a lot to complain about and has been for a while. I'm interested to read any responses to criticisms of the conservatives and/or government, I don't remember anyone making a reasonable response shut down or abused.
I think if it gets moved to a separate forum all it would lead to is more political posts on other threads at there's such a cross over. Certainly there are as many arguments in the football threads as there are on the politics ones so I'm not sure the move would achieve.
Personally if anything was to be moved to separate parts of the website it would be gambling and being threads

My prediction is a nsc "plenty to complain about" under Starmer. Some people will still be obsessed with party politics in an unhappy way - SNP issues, lefties bitter that Starmer isn't a "true socialist", Labour cabinet member scandals and resignations, financial crises, taxation anger. There really will won't be a sunny uplands of a centre-left paradise on nsc ad infinitum.

For everyone of us who finds party politics 'exciting', there are far more people and football folk who don't want it in their faces. Neighbours, extended family and most colleagues change the subject when politics are raised. "Ah well, nice day isn't it" or "What you got planned for the weekend?"

These angry little talking shops only serve the few involved. Not the wider group.

Numerous pro Brexit/right wing members have been purged from NSC over the past year after numerous complaints, thus creating a lovely echo chamber/safespace for mainly progressive Guardian reading types.

Seriously though, if Bozza is pissed off with the number of political threads parroting the same old views cluttering up the main board then a politics sub forum seems the most sensible option.
Agree that the right-wing side is a bit weaker now when it lost their most eloquent spokesmen such as baker lite and Pretty pink fairy. It can be tough to recover from such losses.

But what goes in the sub forum? Because I can see a lot of threads about football(with an "interesting" world cup host, and variety of similarly owned clubs, ) going political as well as anything involving money and budgets going the same way. Or everyone could just ignore what they're not interested in, rather than debating what is and isn't a political post/thread and complaints about fairness etc. Just take away posts and posters that are abusive

Exactly why people probably like to discuss it on here, and why the vast majority prefer the veil of anonymity on this site rather than post under their real name. The format of a forum enables an exchange without each other's context, background, age, expression, status or whatever else. The written word is tough for professional writers to convey tone, subtlety, and meaning without a bunch of us trying to pass the time in an exchange of views with people we mostly don't know - and that is part of the attraction, that abstraction of polite society conventions means you can exchange views that might otherwise prove uncomfortable in other situations.

Me and my Dad are a case in point. He is a staunch Conservative, would never vote Labour under any circumstance. In 30 years the only time we have been politically aligned was to remain in the EU. If the conversation ever strays into politics, either my Mum or my wife dash into the room to interrupt with a suggestion of a cup of tea, or something needs to be retrieved from some where. It's never pretty if me and my Dad are allowed free reign to stray into politics. :lolol:

I like the political threads, right up to the point where two people get into a slanging match or simpletons post memes and then laugh at how clever they have been outwitting everyone else. You generally know what to expect. I would also like to dispute the no one ever changes their mind mentality. I think people do ALL of the time. Other times it is just about understanding someone else's perspective.

RIP threads on the other hand. How many times have I opened one of these and thought who? why (absolutely no connection to football, our club the area and wanted to ask why do you think anyone here would give a flying... I nearly always end up finding out interesting stuff about them, once I let the irritation pass.

All things UK politics, UK party politics.

Folk slyly introducing it into completely unrelated threads, already face a bollocking and sometimes exclusion from threads. That could simply continue if party politicised obsessives tried that stunt again.

NSC I think has been a magnet for political people, on a scale up (and some) from any other football forum I've seen, and I view others a great deal. It became self-fulfilling, us politically minded natives have taken over the asylum. Whilst I know other folk who say, "nah not for me, everyone's going at it hammer and tongs on politics", some were members. I rarely do twitter or for example Guardian readers replies, but I'm told it's been political warfare, bitching and trolling for many years now. Celebs and writers talk about it with disdain.

We political-types really are a small subset of the wider public, the wider football loving public.

Obviously @Bozza's call, I'm relaxed either way. Only he would have a handle of what NSC can achieve, where these types of fora are heading.
