I took that as he was saying there’s not that much need as we’re unlikely to gain many more places and break into the “top 6” level. Sort of disagreeing with Wrighty that a top striker would make much difference (compared, for example, with Leicester, who have “better” strikers but still can’t make that step consistently.

I mean, they do have a League title and an FA Cup to keep them warm, and haven't finished outside the top 10 since 2017. You are right though, breaking into the top 6 is going to be nigh on impossible barring a perfect season for us

We were 7 points outside of the Top 6. If we'd perhaps not gone down to 10 men at Man Utd (A), beaten Leeds last week, and just one of those 14 other draws were wins. We'd be there now getting our passports ready. for a Europa League campaign.

When Vardy goes they will be in trouble. As much as I dislike him, he is making them a good team.

That’s a bit of a stretch and does Groß a huge disservice, beautiful interplay across the box and a very quick turn and strike on his ‘weak’ foot.

Oh that wasnt the intention see the post above yours.
I'm yet to watch it back but in my mind I remember the goal as:-

Ball played right across the box, unchallenged.
Then back into Groß feet.
Nobody cut that ball out.
Nobody was in touching distance of Groß.
And nobody was between him and the goal.

What he did was superb - but if that is what happened (happy to be wrong) then that seriously pedestrian defending that Dunk, Webster, Cucu, Veltman hell even Duffy would have been ashamed of.

True, which would have been a near on perfect season for us. As it was, we didn't do that and we're not in Europe so far as I can tell.

We have been fantastic and become a mid table team. Next step is to top the mid table sides to be 7th, which would be unbelievable. Whether or not we ever break into the top six is dependent upon keeping Potter, keeping the best players and having a decent top six budget. Not sure if these criteria will be met.

The goals were an odd selection altogether - as if picked simply for the strike that hit the back of the net. None of the action showed team build-ups of the sort I've loved for us this year. Sure we could pick 12 better goals of our own?

Some of he goals of the season contenders were very underwhelming. There were 4 or 5 where my thought was "what's that doing in the competition?".

It's true. You look at a game like Norwich and think that those points could have made a difference, but that said, someone had to drop points to Norwich.

No team promoted from the Championship is ever going to be relegated with zero points. They are going to take some points off the other 14, and if really lucky, even a point off one of the Top 6. It's just a question of who.

As well as two draws against us Norwich took points from:
Burnley (4), Brentford (3), Southampton (3), Wolves (2) Newcastle (1) Everton (3) Watford (3) Palace (1)

Burnley would have survived if only they'd beaten a team that shipped 61 goals.
Wolves would have finished above us

And if Liverpool had stuck that third goal in against us at Anfield, they'd be champions. It's all a mystery this football thing.

Soucek was actually touching Gross. :lolol:
It was a series of 1 touch passes between Maupay, Welbeck, Mwepu, back to Welbeck before it reached Gross. Probably didn't travel more than 8 yards at a time. West Ham had plenty of players back and were in good positions marking. The balls couldn't be cut out because they were neat 1 touch triangles. Had Ian Wright purrrrrrring with delight. So happy it is then. :D

I think there was one goal from each month of the season. As such they ignored plenty of belters and included some that were not as good.

Maybe if we had taken 6 points off Norwich like most teams???

Thanks
I'll watch in a bit, I remember the distances being more spread out and Groß a little more open in a position that he should have been.

I think you’ll think quite differently once you’ve had the chance to watch it again.

Just watching it now, the woman screeching near the microphone when Man City score their 2nd and 3rd has just terrified all the neighbourhood dogs and cats.

Ah, as our dear old manager Liam said, “John, if my grandmother had balls she’d be my grandfather.”
