You go out Saturday night, thereby missing MOTD, and having been out Saturday night there is no way you're going to be up at the frickin ridiculously early morning time that the Beeb re-screen it on Sunday morning. Why oh why can't they put it on at a reasonable hour on Sunday? 10 o'clock would be nice. I mean does anyone on here (without very young children) actually tune in at 7 something o'clock on Sunday for MOTD?

And no, I don't tape/record things on TV, never have and don't have a recordable DVD player.

I record it on my Freeview+ thingy and then watch it at whatever time suits me. I like to have the option of skipping through all the analysis and pundits talking crap!

Why don't you watch MOTD2 on Sunday evenings then?

It's on at a reasonable hour (usually about 10pm), they cut out all the crap discussion and just concentrate on the highlights, and best of all, it's presented by Adrian Chiles, which means you don't have to endure the 19th Hole bonhomie and general talking-bollocks of Hansen, Lawrenson and Lineker.

Couldn't agree more. Great viewing.

Goals on Sunday has the right mix of highlights, analysis and banter with studio guests, all on at a reasonable time.

...is the way to do it. Put it on series record so that, week after week, your box of tricks just gets on with recording MOTD for you, ready for you to watch whenever you see fit.

And, also as above, it allows you to trim the viewing period to around 30 minutes or less if you really want to.

MOTD2 is a creditable second solution.

I would imagine the timings and formats are related to the rights the BBC have bought.

They are probably required to get it out the way on Sunday morning, before SKY take over all things football.
