On the 'last 5 cds bought' thread, BHA Links mentioned Garveys Ghost by Burning Spear. I've got this album on vinyl and it is indeed brilliant.

Which vinyl albums are your favourite? For me it is these, for no reason other than I love listening to them:

Burning Spear - Garveys Ghost
Jimi Hendrix - The Jimi Hendrix Concerts
Dr Feelgood - Down by the Jetty
The Allman Brothers Band - Live at Fillmore East
The Who - Quadrophenia

There are more, but these just came to mind

Pah! I really wish more stuff came out on vinyl but the music industry bods seem to have scuppered that idea too.

Got some classic late 80's/early 90's rock/metal picture discs.

And a rare 10inch of some weird poet (can't remember who) with Kurt Cobain playing guitar in the background.

I used to only buy vinyl up until about four or five years ago but now so many albums aren't released on vinyl I don't have a choice.

I used to buy picture discs whenever I could. I have Let's Dance, Run to the Hills and A Kind of Magic on Picture disc. I also have Band Aid on a very strange shaped picture disc single.

Wonder how much they are worth? I'll save them for Antiques Roadshow in about 30 years time

I have 'A Kind of Magic' 12inch which my dad gave me. Found out not long after that it was worth quite a lot more than he originally paid for it. This was about 12 years ago.

I've got a very early copy of the Rolling Stones - Some Girls which has photos of Marilyn Monroe and many other famous females faces. It has a pull out sleeve that has the silhouette with a wig like hair round each one. This slots over the faces and makes them look like they are in a fair ground/pier and sticking their heads through a cut out.

Various people on the cover complained and they had to withdraw all unsold copies and re-issue with a slightly different cover.

Only notable because it's probably quite a valuable album now.

Check out www.simplyvinyl.com for quality albums on vinyl. Nearly every record I buy is on vinyl. Use a USB port to transfer them over to the PC and then transfer to IPOD. Great stuff. You'll find me in Urban, Rounder, Across the Tracks and Music Meltdown every saturday.

Inflammable Material - SLF
Camembert Electrique - Gong
Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars - Bowie
No Sleep Till Hammersmith - Motorhead

Vinyl classics, just don't sound the same on a CD.

• An original (1970 release) of What's Going On by Marvin Gaye (LP)
• An original French (1969 release) OST of the The Italian Job
• An original (1967 release) OST of Up The Junction by Manfred Mann
• A bootleg album of the Who live at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. The date of recording? September 29, 1969 (my birth date...)
• An orginal (1969 release) of Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes on Stax. (His rendition of Walk On By is colossal.)

My boss has an original God Save The Queen by The Sex Pistols on A&M (worth upwards of £1,500)

Saturdays in mid-teen years were spent thus: bacon sandwich/fry up at the Dumb Waiter in Sydney Street, a couple of hours browsing through Across The Tracks, Vinyl Demand, Wax Factor et al buying up northern soul, ska, motown, Who, Small Faces etc singles and albums. Home by 1.30 for a cup of tea before walking out to The Goldstone (I lived near Preston Circus back then) to watch the super Seagulls.

If the Albion weren't at home, I would do the same, except probably start a couple of hours later.

Marvellous times, I can assure you of that.

It's probably on Virgin - in which case it's worth two-thirds of three-fifths of f*** all. sorry.

However, if it's on A&M, - DO NOT PLAY IT AGAIN. It is worth a few bob, believe me, depending on its condition.
