Something happened earlier that got me thinking about the night I stood in a hospital watching my Daughter fight for her life, I asked the specialist if this new treatment they were trying didn't work what was next and he looked me in the eyes and said "Nothing, there is nothing left we can try"

The feeling of utter helplesness, being unable to fight it for her was the most scared I have ever been.

Was on a boat in Thailand from Kho Phi Phi to Krabi. It was a flat bottomed boat with no keel. Sea was calm when we left Kho Phi Phi. Storm came a few miles out of port. The boat rocked back and forth and I was shitting my pants big time. All of a sudden the boat was hit by a big wave and was on its side in the water, I can remember looking through the green water that was starting to come through the window. By now the guy next to me, who was a helicopter pilot was talking me through how to get out. He told me to put my hand by the window and wait until the boat was full of water, hold my breath, follow my arm to the window and swim out. I remember the song I was listening to on my cd player "Smithers Jones" by The Jam. The boat somehow righted itself but was full of water up to our knees. The boat limped to port in the end but I have never been even remotely as scared as that before of since. Can remember it like it was yesterday and it was 15 years ago. I believe it was luck that we survived.

It will live with me forever. The cold fingers of fear that gripped my heart when the doctors said the words the OP heard. I heard those just over five years ago. We had twin boys, born at 28 weeks - premature, certainly, but in addition they had Inter Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), so when they were born, my little one was 14oz, my big boy was 1lb 15oz.

11 weeks later, having had my bigger boy home for two weeks, the doctors ran out of options with my little boy. He had got sick when two weeks old and they had worked bloody miracles to keep him alive, and I always had hope. Until then. Until that call. That was the hardest, longest, most painful day ever, holding him in my arms.

I was quite happily watching TV when I was suddenly hit by severe chest pain and couldn't breathe properly at all.

Luckily my Dad was at home to call an ambulance, but I have never felt so scared and clueless about what was happening to me.

Sorry to hear that Mr Igilla hope you and Mrs Igilla and young master Igilla are all well and healthy, all the best. That was hard to read I dont think I could cope with that.

My left lung had collapsed (spontaneous tension pneumothorax), which kept me off work for two months thanks to various complications incurred in the treatment of said issue. Not fun, although a drop in the ocean by comparison to what the OP and @lgzilla had to go through.

Having two daughters, and two lovely grandchildren who I adore, I can only imagine the pain and heartache you must be going through. I sincerely hope that everything turns out alright.

Saddest story I have ever heard, I have twin boys, both premature, now aged 4 but were in intensive care for 4 weeks. To have lost one would not bear thinking about, my heart goes out to you. How is the big boy now?

My 11th birthday, I did archery and orienteering at Lodge Hill that day. Crazy to think that at the same time you were having the scariest moment of your life.
