There have been many times I have been immensley proud of my two, but to pick one would be impossible.

It may sound slushy, but every day when I look at Becky and hear from Laura, I am the proudest dad alive.

Having had El Pres Jr diagnosed with higher functioning autism at the age of 6, and had him described as a 'danger to society' by his first headmaster, who tried to have him sectioned and sent to a special unit in Plymouth (we live in Manchester) the outlook had been fairly bleak. There was no affection from him, only reaction to issues and events.

He was non-communicative, unable to socialise with groups, and attending a special psychological unit at the local hospital on a weekly basis.

A move to a new smaller school helped, but progress was slow, and the prognosis not great.

He started listening to music, and could recite lyrics word perfect often after hearing them once or twice. He had asked for the Eminem album for Xmas when he was 9, and I reluctantly bought it, aware of the profanity contained within.

For his tenth birthday I managed to get tickets to see Eminem at the Milton Keynes Bowl. He asked to sit on my shoulders in the teeming rain, when Eminem came on, then asked if he could sing along. He then proceeded to keep the crowd around us entertained with a falsetto rendition of all of Eminem's songs, word and profanity perfect. At the end of it he said it was the best day of his life, and hugged me for the first time.

That was four years ago, thanks to music he has gone on from strength to strength. He has seen Pearl Jam, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, New Order, Slayer, Foo Fightters, The Streets, The Jamm, Maximo Park, Editors, Yellowcard, The Subways, Angels and Airwaves, The Strokes and many many other bands, but I owe his renaissance and hopeful entry into 'normality' to Marshall Mathers III.

Listening to the radio one Sunday morning, Doris Day's que sera sera came on. Without prompting, my then 11 year old step daughter joined in with a word perfect rendition of:

When I was just a little boy
I asked my mother what will I be
Will I Brighton
Will I be Palace
Here's what she said to me
Wash your mouth out son
And go get your fathers gun
And shoot all the Palace scum
Shoot the Palace scum

I have obviously had a major influence on her, as her real father is actually a Leeds fan, and she used to support them!

 that must have been a truly wonderful moment... I hope that one day my boy might interrupt the school carol service Away in a Manger...

I seem to miss out on these "proud" moments, but I,ve just got home an hour ago, after a weekend camping with my 8 year old in conjunction with his cub-scout group. You don,t really think about it at the time, but he,s "suffered" this awful weather all weekend and never complained once......just got on with it, and had fun.Yep.....they,re all right my kids.

PS; Congratulations to Starry and Paddy

As a father of 6 there have been many, many proud moments that are personal to me and my wife, but they all pale into insignificance, when i hear about the bravery of a child that is suffering, we have never had to deal with the pain this must bring to a parent, and i salute those that have dealt with such issues.

Congratulations to you both by the way Starry.

My little boy over the weekend came up to me and told me he needed a poo poo which he then did in his potty for the firs ttime. I was very pleased with him so went and bought him a football.
