As alluded to on my 'f**k me thread, this Wednesday was a bit of a biggy, and we so very nearly ballsed it up.

The good news is we have, after nearly a year, of work, meetings, and some very tough self analysis, been accepted to adopt children.

So in the fullness of time 2 further Albion fans (if they are not they so will be!!) will be joining and completing the Stat clan.

But it was a tough call, all we had to do for a panel of 12 people, was answer 6 questions and we just couldn't do it.

Our S/W and her boss, who was also at panel, came over, yesterday. Both said it was easily the worst panel performance by a couple, they had ever seen.
Neither recognised us, it was like we were different people.

While we were talking I came to this conclusion:-

They kept us waiting in a small room for over an hour before we were called. During that time we both started to 'shut down', panel wasn't talked about, infact we just stopped talking. When finally called we sullenly walked in and sat there - vacant.

Panel couldn't believe us against our report, and our S/W worked herself into the ground to convince them otherwise.
Which luckily she did, but it was sooooo close.

The biggest day of our life and we so, so very nearly f**ked it up.
Does that sound familar to any of you guys?

Well done mate. It is good to see that there are still people out there willing to do things to help others.

Know what you mean about f**king things up as well. Glad it all work out though.

As someone who's been through the same process, I know what Stat Brother's been through - it's not a fun ride.

But it gets better from now on. Well done to Mr and Mrs Stat for hanging in there.

Nerves always seem to get the better of people when it is something that is wanted so badly. Seem to remember your original post saying you didn't want to tempt fate by mentioning it too! Congrats, but sounds like a nightmare process!

Congratulations. A life changing decision. Well done to your social worker. It is a difficult one - but putting people in an alien stressful environment to gain an insight into them as individuals and a couple is a difficult one. As I say - congratulations.

Not familiar with the situation myself, but I have always believed that everyone deserves a chance in life, for the fact that you are willing to put yourselves in a position where you are the ones giving it to someone less fortunate deserves our thanks and congratulations. I hope the remainder of the process is far less stressful for all concerned and that your clan is complete as soon as possible.

Well done mate and good luck. Stress manifests itself in some remarkably scary ways - it could feasibly have gone the other way and you Mrs Stat might have rambled on incoherently for hours and that might have been worse. As Mark Twain once said:
"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
It takes special people to adopt, I admire you guys.

The panel interview is stressful. I have had it before in my job but the thing that I despise and think is a complete and utter waste of time is the " Role Play ", totally false and utter bollocks.

Congratulations you will be great parents I am sure.

A freind of mine has recently completed the process, he said it was the most stressful period of his life but has been rewarded with 6month old twins and has said its now his happiest time of his life so the whole thing was worth it.

Congratulations

Good luck and well done in equal measure. Time for the hard (but enjoyable sometimes and always rewarding in the long term) work to begin.

Congratulaions.

It makes you realise what a f***ed up world we live in when you had to jump through all those hoops yet a waste of space like Jordon swans off to Bulgaria to abopt on a whim in order to keep her name in the papers.

Not quite true: anyone living in Britain who wants to adopt has to jump through the same hoops, even if you're adopting from abroad - the law was changed a couple of years ago.

Gee thanks guys, that's all very emotional.

As The Clown says our S/W put herself/career (I'm not over exagerating here, we truely were that bad) on the line for us, we owe her bigtime.

The major downside is, knowing we came so close to screwing up what should have been the happiest day of our life's, it's still impossible for us be celebrate the result.

So we have a perfectly chilled bottle of champers in the fridge if anyone wants it.

Well done Stat Brother, it is something more people should be willing to do, though a year start to finish sounds quite short compared with the five year process someone in my family went through - which included me being vetted by the social worker!

Leave it a few days. The end result is the one you wanted. You will look back at this in the future when your new charge is heading off to Uni / getting married / having your grandchildren, and think we did well.

No matter how you got there it is the end result that maters. You and your other half have gone out of your way to give hope to someone who otherwise may have grown up in care. Give yourselves a pat on the back and enjoy that champers.
