Now we're talking. Many trips, a good number of wins, including a Play-off game, and the reknowned hospitality of our friends from sarth London.
I didn't see the play off game so my most memorable game was in early September 1978.
A trip to Cold Blow Lane was not for the faint hearted. Sussex were also playing a Cup Final at Lords, so a fair number of fans took the easy option.
I went to the match with a car loads of mates. Our driver was one Des Chapman, back on hols whilst earning his fortune in Saudi. We decided not to go in the away end, never a safe place at 'wall, and we watched from the big stand along the side.
This was a fine Albion team but i think Wardy was out that day. he certainly wasn't one of our goalscores and maybank actually got 2!
Albion ran out 4-1 winners. The locals weren't happy. Everytime Albion scored we threw our hands up in mock anger and swore in frustration then 'grudingly' acknowledging "gpod goal, though".
There was only one way in and out of The Den, so late in the game we had moved around behind their goal. I think most of their boneheads had gone up the other end to congratulate the Albion fans. We saw our last goal here and, when the final whistle blew, headed quickly out of the ground.
When we reached the car, making sure we had an exit, we all let out a huge cheer of "Seagulls", jumped in & headed home.
I was dropped off outside my house and dashed in to see Sussex winning their game and hoards of Albion shirted fans running across Lords and "Sussex by the Sea" ringing out.
Classic day.
