A new little featue for us old bores, but get's off to a rather poor start because, after 40 years of watching Albion (I may not have mentioned that before!), I can't think of any memorable games against the Gills.

I once saw us beat them 4-3 at the Goldstone but, apart from the score, i remember little of it.

So, come on, anybody remember any home classics against the Gills?

About the only thing I can remember about a Gillingham game at home was the first time we played them at Withdean.

Their fans were given the North Stand, displacing a load of our supporters into seats adjacent to us South Standers. And, boy, did our interlopers moan. Mostly about the noisy riff-raff they had to sit next to.

Can't remember anything about the game, though.

my favourite home game involving Gillingham was a 3-1 'home' win v Brentford on Boxing Day about a decade ago

I saw Andy Arnott score

no Albion v Gills games spring to mind

The linesman was a woman. She broke her wrist but finished the game. We always win when she runs the line.

I think her name was Wendy Thoms (or similar)

2-0 win at home in the promotion season of 1987-88. It was near the start of our 6 or 7 match winning run towards the end of the season. Les Berry was playing for the Gills. What a clown !!

A game in about 74 ish when we broke into their ground before the turnstiles where actually open. We took there end at about 1.00 but then the police had there fun.

The old boys will remember that surely. After the game me and a couple of pals where chased by a couple of hundred of pikeys and sought refuge in a local house. Whilst the knuckle draggers paced up and down outside like lions at the bottom of a tree awaiting there elevated prey, the lady of the house told us to sit down and relax and join them for tea letting the Gillingham fans disperse back to their caravans.

I still remember that we had crispy ham rolls. Could only happen here.

Ah Gillingham at H) you say.

Over the years some teams play consistently s**t football. Gillingham are one such! That's why you'll struggle to remember a good match involving them.

The 4-3 was in April 1975. I remember it because you'd imagine it had to be good given the score...wouldn't you? Well I've seen far better nil nils.

A really odd one was the key promotion game at p***filed in April 1977. We won one-nil (Ian Mellor) but again a curiously deflating game.

Hopes up for Friday then! ???

So there we go. With all our collective experince, nobody can remember a really memorable home game against the Gills.

It didn't have to be an exciting win, could have been an awful defeat, big punch up, bad injuries, ref collapsing....no, nothing of real note.

C'mon lads, make history, make Friday a night to remember!

Andy Petterson....was said a while ago: keep up!

Yep - i'm not sure if anything will come close to the image of chasing the game, fluffing a last minute corner, causing Petterson to run backwards and fall arse over tit, allowing the Gills bloke to tap the ball into the empty net, celebrate with the Gills fans and pick up a second booking for doing so.

The most comical Withdean moment by far!

A cracking moment. For 5 points, can you name the player who scored and was then given his marching orders?

I wouldn't say it's the most comical though: Got to be when Walton booted the ball into one of our players (Watson?) and it bounced back into the empty net? Or possibly when Steve Mcmahon was sent from the touchline vs Blackpool and the crowd were singing something about is bald, red, head

I can actually, although that's because i've just watched the incident again on seagulls world - not quite as funny as you don't get the whole image of Petterson falling over, but it was bloody funny

Kevin James the bloke was - deserved the red actually, he was really milking it considering the shambolic nature of the goal!

I remember feeling physically sick at the time, to be beaten by those caravan-dwellers. Nice to see that the blokes career has really progressed since then

Ok, for 25 points, what position had Kevin James been playing for the first 70 minutes of the match? Clue, he was about 5'5...
