Danny Welbeck

I don't believe it is someone that young, says he has moved club a few times and been in the team of a manager who had lost the dressing room in other articles. Although Welbeck does technically fit that description, if Darren Ferguson did lose the dressing room at Preston, I reckon it would be an older professional.

Welbeck was on loan at Preston too and has moved (been loaned) a few times.

You're right it's probably not him, just a few small coincidences that fit his description.

The other clue that he gave a couple of weeks ago was that he doesn't play for a London club (he said something about when his team came to London for games). It's an intriguing guessing game - my hunch is that he's a defender but I have absolutely no grounds for thinking it.

Agree it's a great column though

In the initial articles I read I thought it may have been Ryan Giggs, but given that the player's moved around a lot and is likely to be in the twilight of their career, Danny Murphy sounds like the most likely candidate.
