I'm going to put Craig Maskell up there.

We all* remember Reinelt and Storer scoring those incredibly important goals but Craig Maskell made more appearances and scored more goals. He also caused the trouble that created the chance for Reinelt. Arguably his work rate in the team kept us up.

If we were a normal club and those dark years had never happened I'd say Brian Horton or Bruno as they were the solid foundations for our two most successful teams.

*I say we all - but so many won't remember it.

And Maskell 'assisted' the Storer goal by dragging the Donny goalie to the floor and sitting on him !

Yep, the man responsible for our one and only recognised senior trophy. I can here Gordon Smith saying “it could’ve been me!”

I would argue that Reinelt scored the most important goal but he wasn't necessarily the most important player. If Maskell hadn't hit the shot in the 1st place Reinelt wouldn't have been there to put it in.

Personal view is Glenn Murray. He got us promoted twice and I very much doubt we'd have received the Premiership riches without him.

I think you are right. His goals have got the club championship football at the Amex.

Then his goals got us promoted to the Premier League for the first time and his goals kept us there for two seasons and in doing have changed the club for evermore in terms of our finances and standing in English football.

I understand the shouts for Storer and Reinelt but they scored one off goals, that contribution does not compare to the last three seasons that have changed the club beyond anyone’s dreams.

We have had some absolutely brilliant players over the years, but romanticism aside, it has to be Beeney.

Can we now have a poll for the greatest player? I'll put forward Ward, Lawrenson, Horton and Dunk (Although Alex Dawson will always remain my greatest hero)

I think Reinelt scored the most important goal in our history - but that doesn't necessarily make him the most important player. Without opening the thread, or thinking deeply about it, the name that sprung to mind immediately was Brian Horton. Such a fulcrum of that team and helped get two near-misses and two promotions in four exhilarating seasons. I can't think of another player in my time of watching the Albion that had the team built round him to that degree.

I guess the answer really depends on ones definition of important. On the basis of most important goal in our history and potential repercussions had it not been scored it's clearly Robbie Reinelt.
