I met Fat Boy Slim before when was Norman Cook. Back stage at a Red Wedge gig in north London. I'm afraid to say that he was a complete and utter c***. Perhaps I got him at a bad moment.

Michael Eavis would be the most famous, a very nice fella and always up for a chat (bumped into him 3-4 times now, i volunteer at glastonbury and he's always out and about doing things before the site opens) - we had a chat about Eastbourne and nice seaside towns.

The least famous would be Cheyne from one hit wonders Madison Avenue (you wont know them, but you absolutely will know their song Don't Call me Baby), i was working at a dance party in australia and she was in the staff facilities having a drink and a sitdown, and i went and did exactly the same thing- she was lovely, very friendly and engaging.

If we are doing least famous, then I'll probably go with @Guinness Boy

Old thread so I probably posted this before:

  • David Bowie. Brief exchange when he stood next to me in The Nashville when the original Human League were playing
  • Peter Ward. Round @papajaff 's place 20 years ago
  • John (Aden) Gillett. Worked behind the bar with him in Pav Tav 1979 after we had both graduated and just before he went to RADA. Very funny bloke, who cracked me up just after.....
  • I gave change at the bar to a bloke who said " 'ere chief, you got change for the cigarette machine?" It was Mark Lawrenson. So I've met him
  • Chris Payne, who we chatted to at numerous gigs in the late 70s is STILL the bass player with The Members I just discovered. Crikey.
  • Jim Black. Nobel Prizewinner and @Tom Hark Preston Park ' late uncle Jimmy, apparently - :lolol:
  • Met and knew to various degrees some of the members of The Chefs, Wrist Action, The Molesters
  • Chatted with Blaine Reininger of Tuxedomoon, and Mark Long and Marcus Bell (RIP) of The Opposition, and Paul Jones of Redbeat.
  • Met all the members of Caravan backstage at a gig in Norfolk 25 years ago.
  • Bill Bowman, Mike Spedding, Humphrey Rang, John Fozzard, Iain McGrath, and other famous colleagues.

Prince William. Met, shook hands, and had a chat.

Also met the late Queen, had a chat, but didn't shake her hand for obvious reasons.

Other randoms...

Peter Reid. Katherine Jenkins. Sophie Howard (Nuts & Zoo magazine), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Howard Blake (wrote the iconic The Snowman music).

Probably others too...

I've met lots of genuinely famous sportspeople (mostly athletics and swimming) through work, but I'm not 'counting' those, as they mostly had no choice but to be there!

In terms of PLAYING sport (and some of these are not really 'famous' beyond local terms!):

- I have played football, thanks to REMF, with Peter Ward, Ricky Marlowe and Garry Nelson, and against Shaun Derry and Andy Johnson.
- I have played cricket with Allan Green, Andy Babington, and against Meyrick Pringle.

More strangely:
- I have played cricket with footballers Paul Reid, Jason Dodd, and currently with Graham Baker (250 top flight games for Man City and Southampton)
- and football against cricketers James Vince, Mason Crane, Liam Dawson, Tom Alsop and Keith Barker

I met Peter Stringfellow at the Cambridge Union when he was debating about p*rn*gr*phy.

I'd recently downed 5 shots of absinthe (purchased from the venue at £1/shot - bargain!)...

He was wearing a bright yellow jacket. I shook his hand and told him he looked like he worked at a holiday camp. He was not amused.

Maggie Thatcher I guess, literally bumped into her on the 25th anniversary commemorations of the Falklands War. She was charming. I loved the way she referred to us veterans as 'her boys'.

In my day job I make custom fit golf clubs, back in the 90's we supported a children's charity and made clubs for a host of celebrities. They came to our HQ here in Sussex to be fitted and would love to watch their clubs being made by moi....

Some of the names that spring to mind are:
Denis Waterman
Ronnie Corbett
Tim Brooke Taylor
Cheryl Baker
Brian Jacks
Ray Rearden
Des Lynham
Garfield Morgan (The Sweeney)
Trever Bannister (Are you being served)
Ian Lavender (Don't tell em your name Pike)

And many many more who's names escape me at the moment....

I have spent time backstage at the Royal Albert Hall with Natasha Kaplinsky, Michael Ball and at the O2 with C3P0.

And once met David Cameron on Swanage Pier.

Looks like Harry's winning at non-famous people :moo:
