Agreed although interpretation is key and the human race has proved incapable of getting on since before region existed.

That’s a lazy myth. Some factions have historically not got on but history shows us time and time again that all races prosper when the fighting stops and negotiation, trade and peacemaking prevail.
The Vikings proved it.
The EU proved it.
The abolishment of slavery proved it.
Gay rights proved it.
Women’s enfranchisement proved it.
History is full of examples of peace, unification and tolerance prevailing countless times.

Thanks Guiness Boy. I'd also like to remind people that some people on here were less than 1/2 a mile away from it with colleagues at the mosque.

I've been thinking about you & your wife. It must have been horrendous hearing it going on & knowing people involved.

I mostly saw ambulances and police racing past and police snipers in Hagley Park (my work looks over the park). The wife sadly saw one of the children that had been shot being taken to hospital in the back of a police car.

My usual commute takes me past the mosque, so had to take a different route and the city has a very sombre mood tonight. A lot of restaurants and bars are shut an even the casino is closed.

It’s not a lazy myth! Go check out your local bookshop or library for literally millions of examples past, present and (those that will occur in the) future but I’m done arguing with you because it’s undignified in the context of this latest outrage.

Just put a bullet in the ***** head.

People can rail all they like against the death penalty but this ****er just needs to be put down.

Zero purpose in keeping people like this alive. None.

I'm surprised that anywhere is left open tonight. I wouldn't be going anywhere if this had happened to my friends and neighbours.

Thoughts with all of you.

Who’s arguing? It’s a discussion. But that’s fine.

That is incredible.

How incredibly unhelpful, from somebody in a position of authority. He is basically inciting a response attack (which the shooter himself made clear was his aim - to force 'them into a position of violence'.)

Ironically, had this happened in a Muslim country your wish would almost certainly have been granted. But I think most of us recognise the death penalty is antiquated, deeply flawed and cruel punishment that most countries have rightly consigned to history.

Plenty will interpret as such even if we don’t. That’s all I’m saying so probably best left.

To be fair, this is a city that's gone through a pretty shitty 10 years with the earthquakes and now this. "Resilient" is an over used word about Chch within NZ, but I really can't think of a better word to use.
My local fish and chip shop stopped taking orders when the waiting time got over two hours.

my god Frazer Anning is an absolute shit for brains for spewing that drivel out only hours after the incident ......cold blooded murder of 49 innocent mosque goers is not an indication of growing discontent ......it is an act of civil terrorism by an unstable , psychotic , idiot ......you can have views or fears but killing 49 people deserves the ultimate penalty , hang him.

I enjoyed my fush and chups in Christchurch :) Loads of really nice Korean food too, think it’s where I was first introduced to as such.

That is a very very worrying statement from a man in his position isn’t it ?

Understand your sentiments but many of the bereaved will probably want answers and/or justice not revenge.

Indeed. I can’t imagine he’ll survive politically, anger will burn and turn on him in due course
