Odd that Morrissey is being described as leftie or socialist on here. Many very clever people have tried to define his politics and failed.

I'm certainly not a part of the very clever demographic, nor am I all that bothered about this political leanings, I just wish the man would keep his mouth shut and stop being such a sanctimonious tit.

It's not even real news. It's just a crappy media outfit giving publicity to some dumb comments made by a pea brained nobody.

I didn't think enjoying the success of British athletes at the greatest sporting event ever seen in this country would turn me into a Nazi. I'm turning it off tomorrow now.

not what I said at all

"being a socialist" and "attempting to portray yourself as a champion of the working classes" are quite clearly different

I have no doubt that Morrissey is a socialist.........but he also, and has done for a long time, has been desperate to be seen as a working class hero.........i simply question how you can be that if you're living in one of the richest areas on the planet and do absolutely f*** all to help the working classes (in my knowledge anyway, more than happy to be proved wrong)

nothing to do with him being a socialist

I'm not convinced he is trying to be a working class hero to be honest, but even if he was, or a socialist, its not an issue if you also have a few quid in your back pocket. I just don't get this idea that you're a hypocrit if you have some money and don't also have naked self-interest and greed or have somehow betrayed your roots. Your politics are governed by your traditions, values and beliefs.

Irrelevant is probably the best description.

The man is even more boring than his music, and that's saying something.

The NME were trying to define him as right wing not so long ago. I hate the argument that you have to be poor to be left wing.
That as he is wealthy he must do some kind of community service, what the hell is that about. Jesus said something about only
the poor getting into heaven, but there's awful lot of rich christians - but do we have a bash at them?

I love the old Mozster. I have long stopped listening to his views or taking them seriously. He has always stirred up debate. His
first album was banned from WHS because of the 'Suffer little children' was on it. Thank f*ck there was no internet then, as I'm
sure the whole thing would've blown up with over excited Daily Mail readers wanting their piece of flesh.

Artist says something controversial - its not really a story is it?

not at all, but I do find his attempts to be seen as a working class hero a bit ridiculous when he's living in a LA mansion and does nothing (to my knowledge) to help the working classes that he seems to be so keen to be a champion of

how much community work does he do for example? does he do anything to help young musicians? not sure he does........too busy hanging out with his cats and big shot celebs

Thanks you saved me the hassle of writing this

Morrissey has done more for working class kids than most. He gave them Wilde, Keats and Yeates. He wrote about their
lives and how there might be something more to aspire to. He might not be down the yoof club teaching some kid guitar on
a Friday night wearing a Billy Bragg t-shirt, but without him you probably wouldn't have had The Stone Roses or Oasis.
Tell Liam Gallagher Morrissey didn't help any working class kids

Presumeably in the same way you can call someone you've never met a 'wanker'

When it applies to Frankie Boyle clearly there is an exception to the rule.

Totally disagree with Morrissey on this. The games have been fantastic and inspirational. Not for the first time he completely misses the point and enjoys living in his contrarian world.

As fully paid up member of the lentil munching, tree hugging, bleeding heart liberal brigade I can honestly say these games have been truly outstanding. Full of great human stories, triumph over adversity, great sacrifice, fortune and misfortune. From the opening ceremony onwards there has been so much to be thrilled by and proud of. The great success of the games have been the athletes and the supporting public. The losers have been the bureaucrats, sponsors and the hate-filled right.

The games have shown us a sunnier and more indomitable side to the British character and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Morrisey is obviously taking it a bit far but if the arrogance, and ungracious celebrating of success experienced on here and facebook is anything to go by he may have a point.

I always prided my self on the British way of being gracious in defeat and victory but some of the shit i am seeing in embarassing.

My mate liked his British mates on facebook as "as bad as Aussie cricket fans without the sustained success".

Exactly this.

It would be more of a surprise if he said something sensible!!

Glad to hear this! Resores my pride once more. Hopefully I am just experiencing a minority. Go GB!
