I contacted the website about the What's On Page and got this reply

I don't know if you will hear from Michael (the ex landlord) but I can tell you the Ranelagh is definitely closed until further notice.

There is currently people working to try and find someone who is prepared to take the lease on but it is early days yet.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

If you look at the Facebook group you will see one or two acts have found an alternative location (the franklin arms is one I think)

Bloody terrible news. Love the Blues in there

I'm just getting used to the Albion in Hove closing and now this!

It puts the trivial celeb death thread into perspective. This is much worse news

Does anyone know what is happening to The Albion Pub?

Taking its location into account,I fear for the worst.

My missus just said it has been closed for a refurb, with new owners. Not sure when reopening.

My great grandfather & mother with their two children lived at the pub. They show up on the 1881 census. Sad the way real pubs are declining.

Great pub but incredibly small. Too small for food and functions. Sadly, it's evolve or die for the traditional town centre locals.

If it was that terrible a pub, you can't be surprised it's closing.

The Albion will be part of the Laine Pub Co estate.

Great little pub, brilliant atmosphere, a few 'characters' and some good music. There's a clip of Gary Moore there in 2010, i'll try and find it.

Hope someone takes it over

Yes Albion now Laine Pub Co so expect generic craft beer re-furb. Exposed brick, timber, bit of chicken wire. Craft beer £6.50 a pint. The locals will have to revert to the seafield or George st spoons.

Until very recently, my 94 year old mother was living in the flats up the road from the Ranelagh, so it was her local. Was always grateful to the people in there who looked after. The owner (A German, who changed my mothers feeling about all Germans) walked her back to her flat every time she went there to make sure she was safe. She missed it as soon as she moved back to Portslade Village.s Hope it stays a boozer

Over Xmas I went back to that area for the first time in ages and it's really changed. It's quite "towny" at night now.
