Wilder needs to take some responsibility for that tackle. But he doesn't. This could get him into trouble. Holgate will already be in trouble of course, but Wilder needs to take ownership of it.
"It's a mis-timed tackle. You know, whether it's too powerful as people talk about or however they want to dress it up. The game's moved on - I get it. But it certainly gave.... yellow card straight away, I think he pulled out, but with VAR it gives them the opportunity of upgrading it - and obviously they did that."
Mis-timed?
Dressed up as "too powerful"?
Blimey.
Apparently the Only player to have received a red in the last three seasonsHolgate has form for that sort of challenge. He needs to be shown how to tackle firmly without trying to end a players career
For me that’s a more worrying comment than from Wilder. A player has nearly crippled another and he comes out with that tripeGets worse.
Sheffield United captain Anel Ahmedhodzic on Mason Holgate's dismissal: "The red card killed the game, killed our plan and killed everything we worked for.
"If you ask my opinion I don't think it is a red card. I don't want to say more.
"From what I saw on the pitch I don't think it was [a red card]. Maybe the replay seems harsher than it is.
"But from my view on the pitch I thought it was a fair tackle."
Unforgivable. For me that’s a more worrying comment than from Wilder. A player has nearly crippled another and he comes out with that tripe
It wasn't a mistimed tackle at all. Holgate timed it perfectly, and intended to take Mitoma out of the game by injuring him.A slight revising of opinion from CW.

Holgate red was correct decision - Wilder
"Well, maybe as a player that played for quite a long time, you would think that's an OK challenge - a strong and competitive challenge."
"But I think we all have to admit, me included, the game has moved on."
"It was a mistimed tackle and the correct decision was made."
So still claiming that the tackle was mistimed, but agreeing that the decision of the red card was correct.

The response from Wilder still isn't nearly enough to limit the damage from this.
Yes, the Wilder clip shown earlier in this thread is aimed at the Sheffield United audience, and he's trying to protect his player, in public at least. Bit futile, but understandable, TBH, but I bet he wasn't so kindly disposed to Holgate in the privacy of the dressing room! For me that’s a more worrying comment than from Wilder.
