I'm not sure I believe that - I suspect that is an urban myth. It doesn't make sense for a criminal to be allowed to compromise their own safety so as to improve their chances of escaping.

Saw a group of four mopeds smashing up bikes in Brighton station at 7.20.am. Riding around like loons wearing masks. So obvious. Don't know why police were not on them. Very menacing behaviour

Have you not watched any of those cracking 'police camera action' programmes on channel 5? And to correct others on here, it is when the driver becomes a clear danger to OTHERS that the OB back off. I'm sure that Edna can confirm. If the dickers munter their own worthlessness that's their problem. The difficulty is that the two (danger to others and danger to selves) generally go hand in hand. The latter, however, is not the game calling issue in a chase. It is the former. Think about it.....anyone suggesting that socialist bleeding heart Britain, or the EU (that owns us) have a law which says no criminal should be chased and apprehended if there is a possibility the criminal may get hurt, is making stuff up.
