From Huddersfield newspaper:

You don't normally take those things into account when talking about a transfer fee, do you?

I'm not convinced that all this outpouring of positivity is justified, he's been a big part of a team struggling to score goals. He's weighed in with 2 and put in some good performances, but at 29 I think a contract taking up to being 33 is very generous. He was a big part of the Huddersfield team which was, let's all be honest, completely rubbish last season. I wasn't a fan of his before he signed, he's better than I thought he was but I think any talk of him being "our best player" is crazy.

For this season it's no more than a morale boost, but one that we have really needed.

I've just been reading their thoughts.

That he was always leaving permanently seems universally accepted - so not too surprised or upset by that. A lot of grumbling over the reported figures (although nobody knows what they actually are, and there are some reports of a sizeable loan fee, already paid).

Also quite a few eulogies, for the player - 'best I've seen in 45 years following Town', 'a player I'll tell me grandchildren about', etc, etc.

On that basis, either:

a. They haven't had very many decent players over the last 45 years, or...
b. We can look forward to far more (consistent) quality from Mooy, than we've seen so far.

The loan fee is absolutely fair enough to include in your thinking. If Fulham are paying us a £5m loan fee, with an agreed further £5m at the end of the season, to make it permanent, I'd be happy to accept that we effectively 'sold him for £10m'.

The same applies here.

Trying to include the WAGES they've avoided paying (while he plays elsewhere) is absolute nonsense, though!

No, there is a Mooy thread on downatthemac which explains what happened, this bit is relevant:

"The FACT is that Mooys (previous) agent had told us he wouldn’t be signing a contract extension, so we expected Mooy to leave, and had lined up Kieren Dowell as a replacement.

Everything was then in limbo as Mooy dropped his agent, and didn’t get tied up with a new one until quite late in the window.

Then Mooy got a new agent, Phil asked Mooy about potential of agreeing a new contract with Town (in meantime, Dowells agent lined up a deal with Derby)...they tentatively agreed most of the deal, it was the largest contract we’ve ever offered to a player outside of the Premier League, and at that point Hodgkinson thought that Mooy would be playing with us for the season

But then when Mooy came in with his agent to iron out the final details and sign, the mood had changed, they had lined up a loan deal to Brighton and the new contract was only being signed with a pre agreed transfer fee and a recall clause that had to be triggered before the end of December).

Hodgkinson was over a barrel here, they could either hold Mooy to his existing contract and have him play out this season and leave for free...OR...he could get the contract agreed which would bring in an immediate loan fee for Mooy and ensure he didn’t leave on a free.

All the above is the facts, Hodgkinson didn’t field offers for Mooy. Clubs weren’t approaching us about his availability, and his status without an agent meant he wasn’t being touted around."

Huddersfield were in the absolute mire at this point last season, we are not there yet, a small upward turn e.g. a win! Would make things look very different.

I think this actually makes very little difference to Mooy's situation, as if we are relegated he will no doubt want to stay in the Premier League and either we will loan him to Leeds or someone or sell him.

But of course what it DOES do is free up a loan slot. Which we will no doubt fill with the goalscorer who will fire us to safety. Because there are so many prolific strikers out there who are not wanted by their own clubs.

Only allowed two loan players at any one time ... and no more than one from any other Prem side.

Terrific news. Mooy completely fits GPs possession style and when he’s on his game he makes us tick.

That said I agree with a few of the lone voices here that suggested he can do a bit better. A guy with his ability is clearly capable of more goals and assists.

But very happy to have Aaron with us for a few more years, and we’re a good fit for him too I think.
