4 mill if true could be the total amount including add ons etc, like if he scores 20 goals, if we get to the Premier League etc

In which case it would be peanuts. Bristol City keep their fans happy by telling them it's UP TO 4 million. We say undisclosed, as always.

That is the only way I reckon TB would go to 4 million. It could all be absolute balderdash and we have moved on to another target though.

There are still journalists in football for print,TV, radio who do the hard work. Tip offs that are then verified with their Contacts who could be players, agents, club staff, drivers, and rival journalists happy to confirm stories for whatever reason. They've spent many years building up that network. It really is of of little value to them to spread made up rumours and can backfire badly.

Their stories often turn out to be true because guess what they are true. At the time at least. Transfers are notoriously difficult to call because there are so many moving parts and things change.

So Wrong to tar all with the same brush. A few lads running Transfer Hub Champ type twitter accounts guessing any old guff is not the same as journalists being journalists and using social media to share stories that that've done the work on.

Ps no journalist afaik with the story has said we *will* sign 3 players by Saturday. They've said "expected to" or "look set to". They think it's likely but things change...

Considering our supposed opening bid was £300k I would be somewhat surprised if we had increased our bid 13 times over to 4 million. No player with 1 year left on their contract is worth 4 million so for that reason this rumoured bid level is rubbish.

Where did you read £300k?

In bristol newspaper western express this morning they have an article saying Baldock definitely not going anywhere, qtes from Cotterill saying we haven't put on a higher bid since our first one a month ago and anything under 5m the board wouldnt even look at the offer........I do not want to be a doom and gloom merchant as im faithful we will make some good signings but I do not think Baldock will be one of thrm and gut feeling clayton wont be either

This. If/when he signs Bristol will leak the total fee inclusive of add ons to make it look like they got the best deal possible.

Here's the article

Cotterill quotes only and also says "different matter" if albion up their bid. He reckons £5m but then he's not the owner is he ?

£5m someone is having a laugh. He is worth £2m tops with the amount of contract he has left. Wait untill jan if he wants to join us we will get him at a very cheap price. Better value out there.

At that price I hope Baldock isnt signed but then again it isnt me paying for him so if TB wants go spend thst on him so be it.

I don't suppose that TB wants to spend £5m on a striker either but the recent transfer fees for McCormack and Ulloa have further skewed the fees expected in the Championship. £8m for Ulloa was excellent business and good luck to Leo but my gut feeling is that he is only worth £5m at very best - and that was without his fee being inflated by a bidding war among rival clubs. However if he gets 10-15 goals for LCFC in the Prem then £8m will seem like a bargain to them.

Inevitably this situation will have a knock on into Lge 1 etc and the sort of fees other Clubs will now expect when we knock on their doors. We played hard ball with Leicester re. Ulloa so can't really complain if other Clubs will now play hard ball with us, especially if they think we are minted. We also know that TB won't be played for a fool and will walk away, so BCFC have to play their side of things sensibly too, especially if Baldock's contract is counting down.

It is easy to get a bit twitchy about the current strength of the squad as we approach the first game of the season and it must be tempting to splash the cash. Personally I'd rather we found a gem of a player from abroad who gets us the 25 goals a season and only costs £1m or £2m,. Baldock probably isn't worth £3m, let alone £5m but ultimately if he helps us gain promotion to the Prem, then he is priceless. At least he has some pedigree playing as a striker in this country.

I've come back home.
Really?
Personally I'd prefer an accountant.
I can't imagine rocket scientists have any idea about budgetary control.

Yer, a rocket scientist in charge of the budget...our debt would go sky high, our bid for the premiership wouldn't take off and all our hopes would go up in smoke.

Cotterill is better suited to buying and selling at the local cattle market.
BCFC are behaving like someone with pocket 8s looking at a JQK flop and thinking they still have a good hand.

  • Baldock's value is falling by £100k per month.
  • As is Clayton's
  • Ward doesn't have any value for Wolves, he's just a cost burden as far as they are concerned.

Doesn't mean we will get them all but those we do get will be at the right price.

£5m for Baldock...

£3m Reading have bid for Murray.

I know who I'd prefer.
