Brighton have done very well this season and Hughton has done a great job however this notion that Brighton have stayed up without spending money is just not true. One of the top 10 spenders in Europe tells a slightly different story than Chris doing it on a shoestring:

CIES Football Observatory net spending club by club (figures in euros):

€343m PSG (€418m spent & €75m incoming)

€189m AC Milan (€250 and €61m)

€186m Man Utd (€197m and €11m)

€173m Man City (€282m and €109m)

€106m Chelsea (€236 and €130m)

€68m Bayern Munich (€102m and €34m)

€62m Marseille (€66m and €4m)

€54m Brighton (€54m and €0)

€51m Liverpool (€105m and €54m)

€48m Huddersfield (€55m and €7m)

Yes, but still the second LOWEST budget in the Premier League so he has done an unbelievable job

Who said we’ve stayed up without spending money?

Another uninformed gimp like Merson? ???

We had a relatively high spending power because we had a bunch of players on relatively low wages. More established clubs will have higher quality players (or flops) on greater wages, and so there is less freedom for them to make adjustments to their squad. When they do get rid of players, they can often get decent fees from doing so. When the spend on wages for each team are released next year we'll be right down there at the bottom with Huddersfield (who also had relatively high spending power for the same reasons). Wage bills also count as 'spend'. We have spend money, but we've spent it extremely efficiently. Our recruitment team have done a fantastic job relative the budget available.

1. We started with a championship squad.

2. You seem to do a fair bit of sniping on another team's forum, which seems a bit weird, to be honest.

From the thread title I thought someone was organising a whip round for our Chris.

Are these figures right, I though Everton's net spend over the two transfer windows was £84.3m, and Liverpool with the Courtinho sale was only a £10m spend

These are the figures after the first transfer window, they dont include any after that. Brighton and Huddersfield knew we needed to strengthen, kudos to TB it is a gamble but its what he does for a living.

Not at all I live local to Brighton which is why I come on here. I started with Brighton have done well which I fully believe and feel however I was interested on views on this. Someone mentioned needing to build after promotion which makes sense.

I actually think you have spent very wisely and clearly have a good scouting network

Everyone is on a high and then you come along.

To have any chance of staying up you need to spend around 50 million. Bournemouth spent 60 million in their first season. Norwich spent less than 36 million and went down.
