I didn’t think it did apply to players who didn’t need to be in the 25

Max of 17 players in the 25 man squad who aren’t ‘home grown’

Those under 21 don’t need to be named... so not sure what that means

It's nothing to do with the 25 man squad (players born on or after 1st Jan 1999 don't need to be named in the 25 man squad for this season anyway), but more to do with the new rules post Brexit.

As I understand it clubs can now only sign up to 3 overseas players under the age of 21 per season and just 6 foreign players per season (i assume the 6 is for players over 21 and therefore for the first team squad). There may be some confusion as to if us recalling Moder and Karbownik count towards the three players under 21 from January as they had already signed for us pre Brexit and were just out on loan, but that would only be 2 players even if they did. Unless the signings of players like Zeqiri, Van Hecke and Khadra etc have already taken us over our quota for the season, but it seems unfair to include players signed before the quotas were known about in the new rules.

Yes, that was an excellent article. It also seems that the two clubs' philosophies are similar which will help with persuading their players to come to us. Given the huge cultural change a 19 yo Ecuadorian will face coming to England, knowing he's coming to a club that will look after and nurture him must be a massive plus point.

I don't think we can overplay the part of Bruno here, as I'm sure the young man could well be taken under his wing for a few months to help settle. there is a huge pool of talent in the greater Spanish speaking world, and we are armed with one of the best mentors around.:clap2:

Well done to the club. I told you guys to keep faith. There’s an itk on this thread. This has been done for a while, just a case of visa red tape.

No idea if he’s being loaned straight out however.

Yep. Looks like he's got a little confused.

As the poster above says, there are a lot of players in that position. Even Moder, for example, is not guaranteed to get in the team and his development is supposedly further along than Caicedo. Furthermore, it is going to be a huge step up coming from the Ecuadorian league to the Premier League. I'm not saying he won't/can't make that jump but I don't think it will be immediate.

I'd say Moder is definitely further along than Caicedo as he is a full international for a nation ranked 19 in the world, and has played Europa League. But we shall see, and it could be very interesting.

I'm really excited by this signing,

But he's certainly not proven to be a Pascal Goss replacement yet, is he ???

This, I was reading the thread on twitter when the first tweet to mention Belgium came up. It was a fed up Manc fan who couldn’t understand why they hadn’t got him.
The first Ecuadorean journo to break our interest said the attraction of us to Caicedo was first team premier league football.

Better get straight into 1st team then. Could be disappointed next season.

If he is further along, it’s marginal. Caicedo has 4 World Cup qualifiers under his belt against the likes of Argentina, Uruguay & Columbia bagging himself a goal and 3 assists (which is pretty special for someone sitting back in a Kante position).

He has also played 6 Copa Libertadores matches, a competition which is really not that that far off the Europa League in terms of quality of football.

I love that we’re starting to build a South American contingent as well. Really fits well with the way we’re trying to play football.
