I still feel it’s a pretty standard tactic for agents, and while unwelcome, it’s a known part of the game.

Not being “little old Brighton” any more brings a new set of problems, and having players that teams able to pay more actually want is (in a way) a lovely problem to have.

That social media post isn't a 'standard practice' by an agent. There are probably some decent agents (who are less well-known) who do things the 'right'way and get a fair deal for all parties.

To be fair, Trossard basically took a similar approach and got the outcome, so not surprising they tried it.

Did the agent just hear £70m and say thats enough they wont turn that down? I just dont get wby you put that when a deal has not been agreed, goes to show what an Amateur the agent is.

To be fair, Trossard basically took a similar approach and got the outcome, so not surprising they tried it.

I think the situation was rather different. OK, both players/agents were angling for a move. Trossard did it before the window opened, whereas Moises' agent did it in the last week. The club had an easier way to deal with the latter.

1. He wasn’t available at all. The club held full contractual rights and particularly as it was late January, were enforcing them by agreeing to nothing.

2. It was on a different universe to making “availability known”. In cahoots/orchestrating illegal tapping up and employment contracts terms/wages were agreed.

I’m not angry, Tony emphatically won. It was lovely to see a huge spending club and an agent, for once, fail.

I’ve this warm feeling that highly cerebral TB/PB are playing agents and buying clubs like a piano. The August club statement and ‘resistance’ from Tony over Cuckoo, now appears contrived, reverse psychology in fuelling the mini marketplace and hence price. Everything seems to be on the Albion’s terms.

Trossard was so miseable that there was a real chance he could go on strike and disrupt the team. Plus he was on a short contract and on the way to being replaced, we likely would have sold him without the public strop. On the other hand Caicedo was enjoying himself, playing week in, week out and is known to be an honest character. Pretending he would sulk and cause issues was pathetic.

The idiocy was in not grasping the numerous differences between Trossard and Caicedo situations and thinking a poorly written Instagram message would change anything. Just pointless, public shit stirring, making Caicedo look a bit of a muppet.

Well, I'm not sure anyone can quite believe that we, Brighton, turned down 70m for a player. It wasn't as if Arsenal low balled us after all.

Do we know it’s arrogance? For sure? I guess the difference for me is that I assume most people try to do their best in whatever role they’re in.

If my job were to maximise my client’s earnings in the finite window of their footballing career, then the sooner a move happens, the better. My job becomes to actively push for that.

The public statement was likely to be a sign of desperation after a lack of willingness to negotiate on the Brighton side. I’m glad we held our ground, but I’m not going to demonise Caicedo’s agents for doing their job either.

Speaking with an Arsenal fan who I've not seen in a few weeks tonight and he said that we're the biggest threat to the Premier league big boys and he was very pleased that we turned down the 70 million bid for Caicedo from them! Purely from a football point of view he said its great to see Brighton showing how things can and should be done. Obviously knows money talks but to see the football we play is as good as it gets for a club that doesn't have the riches of the 'big 6'
