Very unlikely we will finish above them. I don't think I suggested anything of the sort. What I said was based on Sunday's performance not one of their starting 11 is good enough to get in our starting 11. But they are a very rich club and no doubt fortunes will be spent on new recruits. Factor in a new manager around Xmas and things might be different.

We won't finish above them. But then at OT especially you have to factor in that they always play with 12 (as you saw again on Sunday).

There is why Man Utd will continue to struggle to reach the glories of the Sir Alex era. They need to give a manager time, it will be no good ditching ten Hag after less than half a season. He needs time to build his squad and that's what the Utd board and fans need to give him time to do. Unfortunately for them they are such a needy fan base who won't be happy with small steps of progress over the next couple of seasons that they'll be calling for the managers head if they aren't top in 6 weeks time. Its hilarious seeing them throw their toys every few weeks, while they need to get behind the team and give a manager a chance to build the squad he wants.

United hierachy won't be happy with that sort of brutal honesty from their local newspaper mouthpiece! Reporters' (or editors') heads might roll!

I was surprised that they didn't try for Bissouma , he's the sort of player they needed. Glad they didn't though. Not sure if Biss will have gone there though even had they tried.

For 'couple of years' I suggest you make that 12 months.

Sure form isn't a straight line heading upwards, and the lad has a big W/C season ahead of him.

But I'll Eden a guess he's already on the 'I really, really want him' list of all £50m+ clubs.
For which currently it's hard not to feel like it's a list that will only get smaller, as the money gets bigger.

Yes, but we don’t have to sell.

In this instance I think it would take 9 figures as a starting point.

I was thinking about comparisons between the two squads.

I'm fairly sure United could take any of our players and make them worse.

Sancho should be better than Trossard. Rashford should be better than Welbeck.

But, somehow, Old Trafford sucks the talent out of them.

I think we should put in a cheeky £15m bit for Rashford , I think there is a very good player there just needs a set up that believes in him.

Regards Sancho being better than Trossard , he has better pace but does he have a better football brain, skill and attitude? The latter being key. Sancho's price got inflated because he was English and Young which distorted it horrendously.

They spent £76.5m on Sancho who is performing at a level below Trossard (if you compare stats for the pair last season). They could easily make an offer in the next 3 weeks.

But, the club will not sell anymore players this window. Even for £60m. Selling Caicedo in the next year would be the equivalent of giving up on the top 10. He is our new hope.

As others have said, stick a £100m buy-out clause on the (hopefully) brand new 6-year contract he should be getting. Then other teams know the score. If they want the lad, they’ll have to pay Tony more than he forked out for the Amex.

though sticking a buyout clause means we could sell him , without a clause we could just hold on to him though if the player wanted to go then it probably makes sense to release him.

Sancho's price was inflated, yes, but so is everyone's if the selling club doesn't want to sell. I also think that 16 goals and 20 assists in 2020/2, 20 goals and 20 assists in 2019/20 and 17 goals and 17 assists in 2018/19 probably contributed to his fee. He output in his time at Dortmund was insane. Sancho is suffering from what all Man United players suffer from: awful coaching

I just watched the extended highlights of the match and it made me wonder how much the narrative around caicedo would have changed had Bruno scored rather than ballooning the early chance. Caicedo didn’t track Mctom and I am pretty sure it was Caicedo that dunk was yelling at. Other than that moment he looks outstanding. He is going to be so good. Let’s hope we can get a long deal and maybe keep him a while.

I was 'blaming' Jocko for that.

But we have to get used to that occasionally happening, now that the team no longer has Biss bossing that very situation.

There's going to be moments of 'I thought you had him' 'no I thought you did'.

Small price to pay (hopefully) for the new Biss' as they look to attack considerably more than we're used too.

Not sure if it sucks the talent, it's just the expectation levels are set so high players are not really given a chance. Although with Rashford I believe he is somewhat side tracked with his political aspirations. Cloughie would never have allowed that.

Clough wouldn't have allowed a player to have a higher profile than himself.

We all believe Rashford is side tracked with his political aspirations. We have no evidence of how much time, thought and energy he puts in to it, but it neatly fits the narrative with his dramatic downturn in form.

I think their problems run much deeper than the manager.

The biggest problem at Utd is recruitment, their recruitment for the last decade has put them where they are now. They sign players like it's a game of fantasy football, they were desperate for a DM and CB before last season so they signed Ronaldo :lolol:

Even more stupid considering they already had Pogba and Fernandes in the squad, and both players seemed to go backwards with Ronaldo around.

Then they need to give a new manager time to address previous recruitment mistakes too. It won't happen, but there is no point in letting ten Hag come in and sign a few players then sack him after a few months, bring in new manager, let him sign a few players, sack new manager, rinse and repeat. It's part of why they've ended up with such a mismatched squad. They never needed Ronaldo, he was signed to keep the fans happy and it looks like it's backfiring now as he wants away, he's not prepared to dig in and help the team because they haven't got CL football, he's not a team player. They need to give a new manager a few windows to build the squad he wants, not one that panders to their fans. They may need to go backwards to go forwards though and the board and entitled fans won't accept that.

I'm 60 years old, fat, and have never owned an Albion shirt.
I've got tickets to watch Moises in Qatar against both Senegal and the Netherlands.

Do I go on a diet, try and lose a bit of belly and invest in an Albion shirt with Caicedo printed on the back? (I doubt I'll lose weight and I'll probably never wear the shirt in England)
Or just stick to a polo shirt?

I've also got a ticket for a Ghana v Uruguay to see Tariq and a Japan v Spain ticket to see Mitoma.

So what are we thinking next summer, minimum £75m? Maybe push it to £90m if Man Utd get desperate?
