It was Gary not Craig that played for us. He was f***ing awful. I’m just thankful he arrived after Ryan Harley had left, I think I’d be having nightmares about those two playing together even now.

32 games (since his first start, against Arsenal last spring) into the Caicedo era and since then the club is averaging 1.71875 points per game which would mean 65 points over a season. Would have meant 6th place most seasons.

I’m delighted he’s signed - whilst accepting this really only strengthens our hand in terms of his market value… hopefully he’ll be a part of our midfield for our first venture into Europe!!

I just love how comfortable he is at receiving the ball in tight spaces. A touch, a turn, then someone has bounced off him or tries to climb all over him and he's like "f*** off", whilst slipping a ball out wide and we crack on. He's brilliant at that.

Argie Mac as well. They are just SO strong on the ball, and so good at using it. Perfect CM partnership.

Still scratching my head as to why Potter didn't actually play him sooner than he did perhaps it was Moders form that kept him out I can't remember but I do remember watching him in a U23 game and it was quite clear to see how good he was compared to the other lads playing on both sides

Amazing to think that in Caicedo and Ale Mac, we're probably watching our two greatest midfielders of all time playing together!

We are all guessing as to how long he'll be here. My guess (as said elsewhere) is that Caicedo will have been told he's not leaving this summer because Ale Mac is ahead of him in the queue for a big club move, having done his time. And before Mac, it was Trossard, and that is the way the club works. However, we're not in the business of upsetting our players, and we know you can be world class, so here's a nice new contract that makes you one of the highest paid players at the club.

So I'll call it now - looking forward to 15 months more of his genius before he goes to one of the world's big clubs.

I think you're right, it serves player, club and agent well if we're in a position to demand a lot of money in the summer.
The interest in him isn't going to disappear, so if the club said 'we'll let you go in the summer, let's try and get the best price going". It does make a lot of sense that a new contract would help do that.

Why does it serve the player? If he wanted to leave, signing a new contract only makes that more unlikely wouldn't it? I agree it serves the club to protect their asset, but mad decision for him if he is still thinking of moving in the summer.

Perhaps with a bit of soul searching, looking at what happens to some players who move to earlier to a big team, conversations with team mates and reassurances from the club about their plans, he's made a decision it is well worth staying.

I do seem to remember Potter acknowledging it was a mistake, he didn't appreciate how good he actually was and he should have gone with him earlier.

He gets more money (eg quadrupling his wages) in the short-term and (if it is the case that there is no release clause in the contract) potentially still gets a big summer move if the right club and offer comes in?
