Think you maybe wrong. Figures plucked from the air are often quoted as fact. Only those closely involved would have any idea what he is on. Unless he has put it on his Twitter page the fact remains no one knows on here.
How much do you think we are paying when we sign teenagers from South America for £4M ? I bet it’s not much …

By this summer Man Utd and Liverpool may have been taken over and have massive transfer war chests to compete with Chelsea. Makes sense to wait til then.
By the summer we might be in the CL and Liverpool and Chelsea might not be.

I really don't know and nor does anyone else on here apart from perhaps a dullard. One would expect that a contract would include extras and staged increases linked to performance. The figures are conjecture. He doesn't need a new contract to get a pay rise.

And I'm sure we'd be happy to entertain discussions on a new contract and pay rise as we were with AliMac

strange that the tweet says set for January exit yet the article doesn't explicitly state that
It's the sun

Caciedo going nowhere this window. Chelsea wouldn't stump up the readies for their first choice Enzo so makes no logical sense that they would be able to pay for caciedo.

Think that Roberto is a little careless what he says about potential future transfers out on his press conferences and interviews
He's literally been learning English from almost scratch for about 3 months. I don't think that anyone will be reading too much into what he said and how de said it.

I agree with sagaman

'Next summer, for him, is better to change team.'

Is a ridiculously stupid quote.

In these instances he should just come up with a potter bland answer

Yes I find it interesting. Obviously we have always offered new contracts but have perhaps left it a bit late at times.

The direction the club is going in will necessitate a slight change in the way we do things. We reward youth players with new improved contracts but we haven't seen it often with a first team squad member mid contract term. Mac A was an indicator we have to change that. He was obviously happy to sign a new contract, improved terms etc. Given we have such a young squad, many would be happy to be getting game time with a view to moving on. To continue our upward curve there will be a time where we will need to start matching (or near) to what others are prepared to pay in contract terms.

Certainly our recent recruitment has been very good at identifying youngsters and doesn't appear to need big expensive proven signings at the moment. If we can continue what we are doing on that side, I'm hoping that any profit we have made from transfers lately may be more focused towards improving existing contracts and keeping these players a little longer. It would seem a sensible next step

I also think negotiating a new contract with a 21 year old may be better long term use of resources than a 28 year old - No names

I'm sure he would if he spoke English well, but he doesn't yet and probably meant it to be a hypothetical situation as in 'if he were to change team, it would be better to wait until the summer'.

Admire your optimism, but no, we will never be able to match what others are prepared to pay.

Exactly. We have our model. Given others will always pay more then there is no point trying to be something we are not and if it did go wrong we would be screwed.

We will never be able to hold the best players in the world (which let’s face it Alexis and Caicedo are in the discussion for top tier players) so we need to enjoy them while they are here and accept they will leave. If we offer 100k then they will offer 200k. If we go 200 then they go higher. We can’t compete. So no point wasting money trying.

Is it annoying? Of course it is. But unless you are one of the mega rich clubs then it is tough.

I agree with the madness Chelsea pay but currently we are so far away it doesn't take a lot to turn heads.

I kind of get that but in any context I think the quote is not helpful

To be honest I'd be tempted to offer a huge chunk of the Trossard fee to Moises to keep him here and tell him were aiming for regular European football with him leading the charge and see if he's up for it. Only draw back would be the effect on others in the squad and obvious deviation from the model...

You’ve kind of answered your own question, although I realise you weren’t actually asking a question - either way, we won’t deviate from the model.
