No, it's money. Two of Fulham's are off/hoping to be off to enjoy the prestige of playing in front of crowds of 5,000 in an internationally anonymous league for large suitcases full of cash.
If it was prestige then who would ever choose, for example, Chelsea over Barcelona, or closer to home, Brighton over Ajax? I'm not criticising players for seeking the cash, but lets admit the truth. Blackburn won the league having paid huge wages and transfer fees. They had no trouble getting Shearer and Sutton who signed for the money knowing that the prestige may follow. The Red Bull clubs did the same in Germany and Austria.
If all was equal, then yes, players would choose Man Utd over Brighton, but if Brighton were paying more than United were, then they'd choose Brighton. Replace Brighton with Man City in that scenario and the truth of it has been proven over the last couple of decades. It will continue to be proven in real time as the club we were promoted from the Championship with start to develop a strong air of pre$tige about them.

Maybe they’ve agreed to step aside in this deal if we agree to sell them Moises.
It’s pretty obvious Moises is off now so we are spending a bit before it’s made official, not making the same mistake as West Ham who got that 105m and now can’t sign anyone without getting ripped off.

Chelsea sign a player on a daily basis although they like to stretch payment terms. I don’t think they can afford to pay what TB is demanding upfront for Caciedo without falling to FFP. The amount isn’t the stumbling block it’s the length of time TB is prepared to wait to get paid.

They’ve spent what 700m or something so far, I don’t think another 100m will make much difference.
It seems pretty obvious the Kudus deal was put on hold for if/when Moises leaves, it was rumoured over a month ago we’d agreed a price etc the all went quiet as it appeared Moises was staying, now he’s not in the squad for our final friendly and Kudus has agreed terms (allegedly)
Could be a case of 1+1 but for me it looks like an obvious connection.
They only ever came in to f with us. I'm positive of that. Wankers.
I swear it's the same for Tyler Adams as well.

The payment terms and how/when it’s paid to us and how it effects FFP are two different things. £80m or £100m as far as FFP is concerned is either £16m or £20m a year on the accounts over the 5 years.
If TB wants the £100m now in one lump sum or over the next 3 seasons it doesn’t make any difference to FFP.
Maybe they can't access the amount we want up front?

I see it like this as well. The Chelsea hedge fund lot have lots of money. But not unlimited money and not unlimited liquidity. I see it the problem being more about the money they can access now and in the next couple of years rather than any FFP considerations.
Also remember that clubs have borrowed to access liquidity, but this is now much more expensive to do

Okay, I'm going to get roundly mocked for what I'm about to say, and I'll probably deserve it. But I'm gonna say it anyway, just on the off chance I'm right and then I can say "I told you so" at some point in the future.
So, I totally understand the sentiment behind the feeling that Kudus can't replace Caicedo because he's an AM rather than a DM. That was my thinking too.
But I've watched and re-watched the highlight reel that someone posted a couple of pages back, and something struck me. Once he's in possession of the ball, it seems to be very hard to get it off him. Remind you of anyone? And then, I noticed that in a lot of the clips in the highlight reel, he's actually getting the ball from relatively deep positions and bringing it forward. He does so with powerful running rather than the pinpoint passing of Caicedo, but with a net effect that's very similar: defence turns into attack in the blink of an eye.
So, what I'm getting at is this: Is it really not possible that Starlizard's data on Kudus shows that he might be a better DM than any of us think - at least, with the style of football we play? Taken as a unit, would Kudus + 1 other from Gilmour, Alzate, Milner, etc. offer us something broadly similar to what we were getting from Caicedo + Mac?

@JetsetJimbo that's exactly the case I think.
As I keep saying he was a DM and does want to play centrally. Is he ever going to have the kind of defensive impact as Moises? Probably not quite. But he can definitely contribute defensively and definitely offers more in attack.

he started his career as a no 6 and then moved into more attacking positions according to the Ghanian media so I wouldn't say you are a million miles off. Think of Kudos as a hybrid of Alexis and Moises with the ability to dribble too.
