Just wondering if anyone's ever done one of these as it seems like a good way to get a free PS3...

I currently pay £20 a month for a simplicity thing with O2 - no phone but pretty much all calls, txt and internet covered...

Looking on Carphone Warehouse after seeing an advert you can get a crappy phone (doesn't bother me) with 300 free mins (plenty for me) and unlimited texts for £25 a month on a 2 yr deal...

Is there a catch? Has anyone else ever got a free PS3 or games console from one of these deals? I expect i can get a better deal if i go in one of the shops too...?

Thanks NSC

As long as you keep up your payments, it is (afaik) as simple as sign the contract, get the shitty phone and the sim and a free (at the point of payment) PS3. However a shitty phone, with only 300 minuets and unlimited texts would cost about 15/20 a month. They'll have bumped up the price by a fiver a month with the PS3.

Which over 24 months is only £120 so a lot cheaper than a PS3?

Not Luton! Thank God
I recently got a PS3 and £35 cashback. The catch was I have to pay £20 a month for two years for my contract which is probably £5 a month over the odds. I also got a shitty phone (though I sold it for £30) but all in all I think I got a good deal, especially as I don't think the Mrs would have let me get just go out and buy a PS3.

If you wanted, you could get a Blackberry Curve 8520 on o2 with 1,000 mins, unlimited texts and 750MB of internet and a PS3 slimline for £35 a month

I used Carphone Warehouse as my son wanted an xbox for Chrsitmas and I needed a new phone. I did a lot of research on the subject and that is why I ended up using them. All of the other compnies require you to keep ills and then apply in a few months time, they bank on the fact that you won't apply, whereas Carphone Warehouse send the gift at the same time as the phone. Mine arrived the following day

I dont see a problem with it, its just like paying an extra £10 a month for your PS3 for 2 years rather than having to shell out in one go.

I took a Carphone Warehouse deal to get a free Wii a while back. Yes, do you do effectively end up paying for the console ( often cheaper than buying it in the shop though ) but if you don't have the cash to splash out for a PS3 right now then it's a good way of getting one.

I was very happy with the deal I got.

Most of them are cons, as you end up paying more than the console actually costs.

You do have to work it out but when I got my Wii I discovered I was paying £5 over the odds. I was locked in for 18 months so I affectively paid £90 for a Wii - hardly a con.

This is exaclt it - I prob didn't word it right in the original post but am aware you'll be paying £5 or so over the odds but there are also cashback deals available. Also the important thing is i've been with o2 for ages and have a 'simplicity' deal which is no contract but i'm always gonna need a phone and will always use it so may as well tie in for a contract for 18 months or 2 yrs. I'm paying £20 now and can poss get a deal ofr £20 / £25 so may as well do it and get a very 'cheap' PS3 not a 'free' one...!

I got a 32" sony bravia with my £35 month orange contract. I was paying £30 a month anyway on paygo so the extra £5 is not too much more.
Anyway,It works out that the television will cost me £120 or so whereas it's close to £450 in Comet. I'm ok with that:thumbsup:

i used afordablemobiles.co.uk around 4 years ago. Got a non branded 32" TV. The Mrs has got a WII free from them. Contract was Dolphin with Orange and exactly the same amount buying it via them as it was direct to Orange. The phone was an old Sony Ericsson.

The Orange one is cheaper on that dolphin 25 - just been ringing round for 2 hrs. Bloody O2 charge £5 extra for internet so now i either pay £10 extra and stay on O2 (not really worth it on 24mnth contract) or change to Orange to pay only £5 more - may have to do the latter but it's a pain in the arse changing it all.

Did get some good cash back offers from Phones 4U - £220 for only £5 extra a month which is essentially £100 for nothing and a free blackberry phone! Tempted to f*** off the PS3 and do that deal and sell the blackberry and then I can afford a ST at Falmer!!! f***ing hell the decisions!!!
