Hopefully, he’ll be keen to show Klopp why he should have been a regular starter there.

We’ve had some golden seasons from perceived ‘has-beens’ such as Upson, Bridge, Murray & Zamora. We’re on course for two more with England duo Lallana & Welbeck.

Couldn’t agree more, regarding Lallana. Really interested to hear from you, or any of the five people who have thumbed up, how one game jogging about, missing two one on ones, and costing us 2 huge points against the bottom side, marks out Welbeck as being ‘on course for a golden season’?

(That’s not to say, he WON’T be great - just that we’ve seen nothing at all, yet)

Good point. I was looking back at the others more than looking forward. As to Welbeck I believe that he has never been a prolific scorer but he is going to help out the others, he has experience and a physical presence. He seems a good character and given that we passed the deadline without a striker signing it is great to have him here. Some site predicted he would score three goals for us this season. I am though hoping for a better return than that.

They have some issues. TAA, Fabinho, Salah, van Dijk, Gomez all injured/sick, and Alisson and Firmino might also need to self-isolate as one of the Brazilian players got sick.

Great! - they'll just have to play the youth team.

That'll be the one that shredded the Everton first team in one of the cups last season then? Oh well .....................

I would say Wellbeck showed he was looking to receive the ball in dangerous areas which he did well.
He got a shot off and on target for the first effort and was unlucky not to score but for the keeper.
Second effort was again a good example of wanting the ball and making space to receive it but again the keeper did well to get to the ball.
I thought Wellbeck looked decent for his debut.
He brings maupay into the game more and clever cut back to lamptey which was probably the best chance of the game.
For a first game I would say Wellbeck is very much on course for a golden season with us.thats why I thumbed anyway.
