Lampard always has been and always will be the football equivalent of a flat track bully. Yes, he gets a shitload of goals every season, against the likes of Hull and Wigan. He NEVER performs in the latter stages of the Champions League, or against the better teams in the Prem.

If Barry is fit then he should come in for Lampard against Algeria.

swap butterfingers to james, and heskey to crouch. i think England made an easy game harder than it needed to be..

but at least there's a bright side- i won £50 on Gerrard as first scorer!

There are no easy games, particularly where England are involved.

Did he not score in the champions league final against Man Utd?

Seem to recall he scored in the semi against Liverpool, a couple of days after his mother passed away.

im not a Lampard knocker, but those goals are at club level. he is no midfield general, and if it comes to a choice between him and Gerrard, the scouser wins as he has more to his game. Lampard just wants to work the ball to the edge of the box and take a shot. with Barry back (or even dare i say Milner as a holding midfielder) there simply isnt the space in midfield for Lampard unless one pushes Gerrard out to the left, which is a waste and unbalances the side. if we go 4-5-1 then it might work, but today showed if anyone had any doubt that Lampard/Gerrard central paring doesnt work if you want any sort of protection of the defence (and they need it with their lack of pace...)

Agree wholeheartedly with your post.

I find it annoying that their always has to be a scapegoat, and for the last few years, it has been Lampard.

He is one of only 4 real quality players we have in the squad (Rooney, Gerrard & A Cole being the others)

He did not score tonight but performed well in a deeper role.

I believe 4-5-1 is the way will play once we get to the knockout stages and meet better teams

I didn't even notice Lamps during the first half. Seemed to do more after the break but still not great. As much as I hate Gerrard he really put in a shift a showed that he can play for England like he does for Liverpool.

Lampard didn't have a great game last night. However, unlike some, I blame the formation.

Lampard is one of the few world class players we have and he is at his best when able to break forward from midfield. Playing alongside Barry would enable him to do this, with Cole on the left and Gerrard pushed further forward to play just behind Rooney where, again, he plays for his club.

Gerrard and Lampard are both forward-thinking players and cannot play together in a two man midfield. We have seen on numerous occasions that it doesn't work.
