Cheshire Cat
The most curious thing..
Why do you want to know? Why would the police hold back on this info? There's obviously a considered reason.....but why?
It's none of your business - back off.

By coincidence, I was having lunch beside the Arun today, and I commented on the high flow rate of the outgoing tide. The Arun has the second highest flow rate in the country (the Severn is the highest). Cue a long conversation about the missing woman. There is the precedent of the young lad 45 years ago falling in upstream of where the woman disappeared, and being found 7 miles downstream, well past the weir. Having said that, anything could have changed in 45 years. The weir, the flow rate, the tides, rainfall, land use (=runoff), you name it. It's all speculation in the end.Not convinced by this theory personally. Unless the weir becomes ‘not a weir’ when the tide is high it’s difficult to see a body going over it…….and the distance involved is enormous - unless there has been very major flooding - for a body to travel that far without getting snagged somehow on any number of obstructions. It’d be a bit like falling in not far from Pulborough (highest tidal bit of the Arun - one of the fastest flowing uk rivers) or north of Henfield (Adur) and ending up in the channel. Not saying it can’t happen but seems highly unlikely given the river hasn’t apparently been in flood.
I’m going to say the unthinkable. Possibly entered the river herself to commit suicide. Why do you want to know?

Like many other people I’m curious. I also find the way police release info strategically quite interesting. Why do you want to know?

People have said that from the start as a possibility - Certainly not a big leap in judgment now bearing in mind it was released by the police today that she was ‘high risk’ with ‘alcohol issues’ related to her struggle health issues. Presumably they knew this from the start which is why they were so quick to follow through with the search of the river so quickly (within hours!) after she was reported missing which is very unusual for an adult who’s only been missing for a few hours.I’m going to say the unthinkable. Possibly entered the river herself to commit suicide.
Indeed. The tides vary very significantly with moon phases anyway so timing could be a factor - the Arun has a max range of nearly 6m on a big spring tide, but little more than 1m on the smallest neap tide. It’s a huge difference.By coincidence, I was having lunch beside the Arun today, and I commented on the high flow rate of the outgoing tide. The police said they’ve never seen so much fake information and time wasters as they have on this case, they’ve also charged 2 people with malicious communications relating to the case. With a lot of rumours etc flying around I guess they had to back up why they were focussing on the river theory so much.Like many other people I’m curious. I also find the way police release info strategically quite interesting.
I’m also really not sure why you are telling me to back off, in a rather shirty manner. My question on a Brighton football thread isn’t going to impact the family or the police work.
Thanks. And yes, horrible for the family. The police said they’ve never seen so much fake information and time wasters as they have on this case, they’ve also charged 2 people with malicious communications relating to the case. With a lot of rumours etc flying around I guess they had to back up why they were focussing on the river theory so much.
Horrible for the family though
There has been a definite narrative that the police just turned up, didn’t really bother thinking too much about it and lazily concluded she must have gone in the river. Sadly due to the circus that has developed and the various time wasting leads and theories they’ve had to investigate, they have been forced to address that.I don’t understand why they have released this latest information about her struggles with menopause and alcohol. I can’t see how it helps the search for her - it doesn’t change anything and it’s deeply personal. It’s horrible for the family and how could it possibly help?
Agreed……..ideally wouldn’t have been necessary, and must be adding even more upset for the family but just one of a whole load of things being considered as part of the investigation that the keyboard warriors won’t know about. Desperately sad. There has been a definite narrative that the police just turned up, didn’t really bother thinking too much about it and lazily concluded she must have gone in the river. While I agree it’s very personal, the fact they haven’t released it until now is evidence they really didn’t want to, but with accusations of being unprofessional, and police time being misdirected, it’s surely understandable?
I was curious as well. The police have since stated that routinely they don’t release such personal information in missing person cases but due to the high levels of gossip in this particular case they felt compelled to do so. They said the gossip and misinformation is distracting.I don’t understand why they have released this latest information about her struggles with menopause and alcohol. I can’t see how it helps the search for her - it doesn’t change anything and it’s deeply personal. It’s horrible for the family and how could it possibly help?
Unfortunately these days the ****s of this world have a platform to air their unhelpful and inaccurate views driven by spite or internet validation.I could not imagine being a family member, not only dealing with the missing lady, shielding the children, dealing with the police, then malicious gossip, nearly all so off the mark and fabricated. Just heart-breaking, I would crack I think, I guess you find an inner resolve for the children.
I certainly am not pointing the finger at the police yet, we do not know the full facts and as so often happens now, this could well pop up on a tv channel and the then you have your eureka moment and go "ah, that's why, I thought that was odd, now I understand"
If the lady did commit suicide, do not underestimate the length and amount of planning some people will go to.
The headteacher family suicide/murder is equally tragic.Whatever the reasons for this poor lady going missing, l find it truly tragic for everyone involved. One of the saddest things l have heard for a very long time actually.
Yes indeed. The headteacher family suicide/murder is equally tragic.
To make their behaviour appear normal and spare their love ones some pain at least.I could not imagine being a family member, not only dealing with the missing lady, shielding the children, dealing with the police, then malicious gossip, nearly all so off the mark and fabricated. Just heart-breaking, I would crack I think, I guess you find an inner resolve for the children.
